more savvy and prepared to go around security measures. The internet will evolve and adapt to counter stuff like this. The users are what make the internet what it is, as the users adapt so will the net.

Everytime goverment tries to restrict something, it flourishes, ask the drug dealers.

The __._ domain name was lost last week when the provider, EveryDNS, terminated it.

So activists, led by Sunde, hope to construct an alternative registry: one that will initially work like existing systems, but which in the long run will become a decentralised, peer-to-peer (P2P) system in which volunteers each run a portion of a DNS on their own computers. By breaking up the internet phone book and hosting it in pieces, they will strip ICANN of its power. Any domain it tries to take away will still be accessible on the alternative registry.

It already has happened. Word just needs to spread, more people need to be involved.

TOR you can use it to surf the regular internet, people in china etc use it to bypass the great wall. It's pretty slow, we need way more people running nodes. I run a few myself.

You can host your own TOR webpage from your computer as well(only can be reached with TOR)

Perhaps I'm mistaken, but even if you are running TOR, it still exists on the existing network, no? My understanding is TOR will merely allow your IP to remain hidden, but you are still using the (only available) foundation.

Yep, TOR is using the infastructure already set up, but it isn't only about being anon on the regular internet, that is a good plus though. Sites set up using TOR are technically on the regular internet, but only TOR users can see it and access it.
