100 Million Americans Without Jobs

100 million Americans don’t have jobs. The statistic looks at members of the "civilian over-16 non-institutional population who are either unemployed or not part of the workforce." The article goes on to note: "That’s an all-time record and it’s an increase of 26.2 million over the last 12 years. It’s as if we absorbed the entire adult population of Canada and not a single person had a job".

That's a lot of people. Given that the population of the whole country is a little over 300M. Its more than 1/3 when you consider its eligible adults. Now there are people over 65 who are retired but even so it makes you wonder how long an economy can remain viable if this many of its people are idle. What kind of rough social fabric are we knitting here?

Sadly too many people believe that "oh nothing is gonna happen" despite the obvious fact the US is going to COLLAPSE

That's impossible! I just saw on TV where President Obama says that the unemployment numbers are going down because of all of the jobs his administration has created. This has to be wrong.

As of April 2009, the specific number was 154,731,000 in the civilian workforce.

You know theres more like 150,000,000 who don't have jobs. Because theres only 155,000,000 in the workforce.
