A leather-bound religious text, thought to date from the fifth century but discovered only 12 years ago, will cause the collapse of Christianity worldwide, Iran has claimed.
The book, written on animal hide, was confiscated during an anti-smuggling operation in Turkey's Mediterranean region in 2000.
Turkish authorities believe it could be an authentic version of the Gospel by Jesus's disciple Barnabas, and an Iranian press report has claimed that its contents will trigger Christianity's downfall by proving that Islam is the final and righteous religion.

Blimey O Reilly! Christianity denies its existence, but the Vatican wants to read it. That alone gives massive weight to the claims being likely true.

Watch this space I reckon, it probably is too good to be true but what if? If it is, then this is a world shaking Earth shattering game changer.

See Enochwasright's topic on the matter. This "find" is more than likely a sham to get people to convert to Islam. Not to mention it completely contradicts Barnabas, in the Epistle of Barnabas, about the meaning of the cross.

It really doesn't matter what this material says because religion is all about believing what you want to believe despite and in spite of all evidence to the contrary.

The book could come from 100 or 1000 BC for all it matters.

Hinduism is far far far older than Christianity, Judaism, and Islam, by thousands of years as far as established on-going and continually practiced/observed faith goes, and no one is batting an eye at that.

Hinduism says we got aliens for gods, and no one is really soiling themselves over it.

This book? Big woop. From an academic stand point it might be interesting, but, from a faith standpoint, it won't make any more difference than if one sacred cow poops in one field or another.

The gospel Has appeared many times in history, recorded as existing in numerous places. No one denies it exists. The problem is the versions throughout history have all been .. different. It appears that the gospel was used in a pseudo Christian/Islamic sect most likely, the original text likely being skewed to fit a specific doctrine. Even this version of the gospel found was likely written after the death of Muhammad..

There are numerous of gospels that were not included in the manufactured Bible.

I'll repost the main facts that deny the claims from Iran. There Epistle (Not Gospel) of Barnabas is well known. It does not deny Christ, the cross, his death or the fact that Israel is the seat of God's people. Here are the quotes:

First of all, the religion of Islam is a definite work of the hands of man. It is a works based religion. On the other hand, God desires mercy and not sacrifice. Mercy is not something that we find in the world of Islamic extremism. Jesus demands our love and forgiveness of others--even our enemies (Luke 10).


Barnabas 4:8
But they lost it by turning unto idols. For thus saith the Lord;
Moses, Moses, come down quickly; for thy people whom thou
broughtest out of the land of Egypt hath done unlawfully. And
Moses understood, and threw the two tables from his hands; and their

The article states that the false Gospel from Iran says Jesus never died on the Cross. Barnabas, in the Epistle of Barnabas, would disagree.

Not only was Barnabas not a Muslim, he has a clear word for when we see Jesus return. No mention of Muhammad here.

Epistle of Barnabas 15:3 "Of the Sabbath He speaketh in the beginning of the creation; And God made the works of His hands in six days, and He ended on the seventh day, and rested on it, and He hallowed it.

Epistle of Barnabas 15:4

Give heed, children, what this meaneth; He ended in six days. He meaneth this, that in six thousand years the Lord shall bring all things to an end; for the day with Him signifyeth a thousand years; and this He himself beareth me witness, saying; Behold, the day of the Lord shall be as a thousand years. Therefore, children, in six days, that is in six thousand years, everything shall come to an end."


To see this clearly, let’s put the information into context with the entire story of the Bible:

-Adam to Abraham 2000 Years of Age 1 (FATHER)
-Abraham to Jesus 2000 Years of Age 2 (SON)
-Jesus to Today 2000 Years of Age 3 (HOLY SPIRIT)
-Day of Rest (Day of the Lord) 1000 years (SALVATION)

What makes more sense? Iran claiming to kill Christianity like they kill infidels? Or, does it make more sense that God loves us enough to send His Son in the flesh to save us in the ultimate act of love and kindness? Who steals, kills and destroys? Not God.

Truth is on the side of the ones that love others every time. Know them by their fruit.

Take a look at the manuscript. It's written in late style Syriac in what appears to be gold ink. The handwriting indicates a late origin, and the blackened leather is an uncommon medium for Biblical manuscripts. The fifth - through-eighth centuries produced a lot of fake Biblical works - stuff like letters to or from Jesus or some other New Testament figure, unknown gospels and revelations and so forth.

This news story is anti-Iranian propaganda, why are you advertising it as a legitimate story? What does this have to do with Iran? The book is in Turkey, it was found 12 years ago, by the Turks and is owned by the Turks?

Look at this:

That is a clear attempt to associate a completely benign (if silly) story in the Iranian press with terrorism. Wtf does this have to do with terrorism?

Iran has a long association with Christianity, just because the current regime is persecuting them at the moment (far more mildly than is suggested here), that doesn't mean they are attempting to destroy Christianity in some kind of holy war.

The whole story is designed to provoke anti-Iranian feelings.

The Iranian gov't doesn't represent it's people anyways. I mean, come on: their president talks of "the mahdi" coming on his behalf, and it happens to be spelled out in his name.
