I assume that the brevity of this thread will prevent it from making it a big topic....

I am an American, on vacation in China, and there are many sites on the internet that I can not visit... however.... I can view, post, and pretty much do anything that I want on Abovetopsecret.com. Does that make any of you suspicious?

I can't view Drudge, Huffington, BBC, and many others....

What does this tell you all?

Should we all start thinking for ourselves; instead of letting retards troll us all into believing the most ridiculous bull#?

It is indeed very interesting that you can use this site over there but can't use some other less trustworthy sites. Maybe they just don't worry too much about this kind of thing in China? I don't know, I'm not very knowledgeable about the place.

Exactly. People talk about the Chinese on ATS as if they were aliens or monsters. There are many Chinese in Australia. They are intelligent and not brainwashed. Most Chinese support their Government. The Cninese are awesome.

And hot.

Umm, that's exactly why I come here? To digest alternative views and think for myself?

Are people actually coming here and believing everything they read? That doesn't make any sense to me.

Well the BBC is an honest to goodness news site, and the other two are big hitters....

without sounding like a dick, when's the last time you heard ATS being referenced on the MsM ?

Most Chinese support their government?

Most Chinese people that live in China hate the communist party..

Even communist party members hate the party, but go along with it because they make money off of it..

Many of the higher up communist party members in China, all have relatives and kids living in the USA going to our colleges.!

I have no idea what the Chinese public gets to see of the outside world in its news progs and suchlike but I would imagine much the same as we get to see of Chinese happenings, the usual natural disasters, sporting events and political murmurings. I am interested to know what you get to see in your browser though, is it just a standard "page not found" error or a "Great Firewall of China" warning message?

Seeing as they have a billion residents, I don't suppose it is so much the news of the outside world that they block but rather possible news over their own country that flies in the face of some Official Story as reported by their local media. Pure assumptions on my part though.

I hope you enjoy your stay there in any case, from what I've heard and seen on TV it looks to be a wonderful and diverse place, once you get past all the McDonalds and Pizza Huts.

There is a heap in Australia too. Most chinese understand that the Chinese Government is doing its best to turn China around and they know that they have done a great job against all odds. Yes most support their government. And dont think the Chinese want america to come liberate them. The Chinese people dont like American Imperialism. Not many of us do.

And on an issue like Tibet for example, most Chinese support the Government. Tibet is part of China and the people native to Tibet are lazy moochers that live on hand outs. see you dont read that much in the West do you? MSM is bs.

Well, I get all my info from inlaws that live in Shanghai.. I have travelled to China 4 different times and stayed there for a few months at a time.. Everyone I have talked to in China has basically told me the same things that I mentioned in previous post..

People only pretend to support the Chinese government, but they actually hate it with a passion.. remember tiananmen square? So do all Chinese people.. Even though a lot of sites are blocked in China, people can still view those blocked sites from within China using a few tricks, and they do it all the time.

There are a lot of hidden things the government there does that are very bad, and every Chinese person knows it..

I get what you are saying though..

Maybe the Chinese government censors the "Western Media" because its twisted news to begin with and riddled with Half-truths. It doesn't sound like the Chinese is trying to stop independent thinking, if it allows access to ATS.

Glad your enjoying china.

I am also US citizen, living in china for 7 years now. I love every minute and enjoy the culture and people immensely, there is a lot more to China than people can imagine.

I have no trouble accessing drudge, BBC, or Huffington. If your in Hotel it may have filters on your internet as opposed to private residence. Also if porn is accessed regularly there will be filters placed on your IP address..
( maybe a teenage kid was exploring the net before you ). The only sites that are off limits are Facebook and Twitter type social media sites, but even then can be accessed if you really want them.

What most people cannot fathom is the amount of personal freedom enjoyed here as opposed to USA...its hard to explain, but in a nutshell i am free to do whatever i please as long as i dont hurt anyone or cross Government policy. Business is wide open and ive made about 18-20% Annually on real estate investments and double that on currency trading. Many friends that have come to visit for themselves cannot believe the lifestyle i enjoy here, which is due to having US dollars converted to RMB when i arrived, but business opportunities are everywhere and my working day is about 4-5 hours long and then i study Mandarin or enjoy the outdoors and countryside, sports, windsurfing on the coast or sailing, etc.

I lived in California for 35 years, and its sad to watch the US continue is steady downward spiral...hopefully everyone can pull together and stop the madness.

Just out of curiosity, are you able to view the banned sites by using an IP not based in China?
