Chicago Police News Affairs confirm that at 10:31 a.m. there was criminal damage done to property of the NBC studio at 401 N. Michigan. They had no other details, but you can see there was considerable damage. Police are investigating who might be responsible. NBC 5 Chicago had no comment except to say no one was hurt.

Yeah, the smartest thing these protestors could do would be to turn all of this on its head and declare a party. Just party, in the streets, on the sidewalks. Use the parade permit to have a great party and nothing else. Let NATO have its meeting, you have your party. But this will not occur, of course, as the anger in lots of people overshadows any chance of a totally peaceful protest - and as you can see from the start of this thread, "What's happening in Chicago" is media coverage of any stray violence and not the real and serious issues that concern the thousands of peaceful protesters.

What is wrong with the violent protesters? Are they crazy, hateful, or just want to cause trouble for the fun of it with an added bonus of an adrenaline high (either the violent people actually with the protest or those playing for outside groups)? They will all just go ahead and do what they do. I don't think it'll get too bad, although some drama will probably occur on all "sides" without anything being changed in NATO or to any plans of NATO.Having a party instead of a massive angry march would be more fun, would attract much more news coverage (seriously, the media loves "man bites dog" stories) and would send a great message of nonviolence.

I still don't understand why the NATO people would want to meet in Chicago. There are many better cities than Chicago to go to. Maybe it's a front and the meeting is going to be somewhere else. That makes more sense.

Defense related costs? I'm guessing that would be "Washington-speak" .... right?

Since when does overthrowing governments and murdering foreign nationals qualify as defense? NATO, as shown in Libya, is an agency of state-sponsored-terrorism. A new, updated Operation Gladio. Nothing more, nothing less.

You and hundreds of millions dont understand that the U.S. is the modern times equivalent of how history has been written regarding empires. Take away the U.N. and global military bases, the dollar and language, then you have the completed first stage of how an empire implodes. One must study history and the rise and fall of empires to understand how the U.S. is structured and how other nations are structuring themselves to become next empires of the planet once this current empire falls. As history has shown us, empires come and go, its how many sister and brother nations crumble when the fall comes that highlights what country will be the emerging empire.
