Funny how people talk about Korea/Vietnam and the "war against communism" In reality, the leaders of these nations probably never read Karl Marx because none of them practiced the ideals Karl Marx professed. Karl Marx never called for massive mass murdering of people.. he professed the opposite.

The "communism" excuse was just another way to make capitalism and American ideals look like the only correct ideas. Sort of like today Bush wants to make American capitalism/ideals the "only correct" ideals and says "either join us or be an enemy"

Look at "communist" Cuba. Fidel practices no form of communism whatsoever..

hey thichead,

By control I see and agree with that .

But the control I was wondering about can our big brother goverment be controlled by a bigger brother of the UN.

And if so are they not taking out right measures to dismiss the US for their arrogance and bullish behavior always starting wars or butting in in others affairs..

Or they letting US stay in so they can control our goverment so it does not go totally out of control rogue

I feel its the fire reason to try and control the US goverment so they dont get out of hand maybe hoping they will show enogh temperance to not go way out into left feild for fear of losing the UN allies

I don't know about that, the north vietnamese might've been more communist that the rest. But in general i'd agree with you. However, the SU did profess to be communist, and it was started by a communist revolution and the like, so its not completely inaccurate. Perhaps it would be better to say the Cold War was between the Free West and Soviet Expansionism rather than against communism per say.

Although, Marx did call for a radical revolution in which the capitalist bourgoise class was overthrown and a new dictatorship of the proletariat came into effect, and I can't imagine that he thought that would happen peacefully.

"either join us or be an enemy"

He hasn't spoken out against socialism, only theocract-'ism' and terrorism.

here is how i see this.. the US is to play bad cop.. and the UN plays good cop.. being there when things get crazy...

as for someone else controlling our governement yes... I definately agree with that...

when I research more into it i will give more valid points to it.. but for now i can only assume.. cause if you notice most of the time when bush talks he is uhh hmmm ahhh and so on.. really stupid.

I think the NWO exists.. that is why they took out JFK. he was going to abolish the federal reserve and dismantel the CIA. they couldnt let that happen so they took him out.

America is not a terrorist state to suggest so is unfair and uncalled for.

The problem is the US has chosen poor leaders in the past and paid for it dearly. I would like to remind the world we would be speaking german just now if it was not for the US.

We Europeans are too blame for sowing the seeds of current problems in the past. Lets face it you are not going to discredit your own country in debate, so threads like this will generate arguments.

Letting one man or a group of men control a country with no input from the population of that country is called?

That is the problem today, I at least find it honest that the US has the guts to push through with plans with or without help from other countries.

You would be happier if the US withdrew from foreign affairs and let china and other countries dictate foreign policy?

When ever i see aid being supplied en mass to foreign soil i see USA stamps on the container, so its not just bullets they export then.

IMHO America is a mini version of a united world all colours creeds etc etc live there, in freedom, with a good lifestyle [although it could be improved] and that is something worth fighting for.

Beleive me I will stand up and be the first to say our goverment doesnt always think with the head on its shoulders but the brain it sits on instead but I think embrasing communism would be a little to much for me to swallow I like the capitalist way and the freedom of unhaltered speech where although it could happen but doesn't very often aleast around me end up getting me killed for speaking out towards the leadership of the US
and if I want to verbally or or in text castrate that leadership I will with no worries that is a major difference in this issue

To anyone really interested in this topic, please read this book

www.addictedtowar.com...

It's a historically accurate look at America's militarism, presented in the form of a short, easy to read comic book. Don't discredit it because it's aimed at short attention spans. It packs quite an informative punch. If you agree, give a copy to every american you know.

Here's what some other well known folks have to say about it.

"Addicted to War is not only a witty and entertaining portrait of our military war dependent economy but a truly relevant insight not available in mainstream media, something our children should know before they must make their choice to become fodder for the military machine."

Susan Sarandon, Actress

~~~~~~~~~~
"Addicted to War is a witty and devastating portrait of U.S. military policy, a fine example of art serving society."
Howard Zinn * author of "The People's History of the United States''
~~~~~~~~~~

"Addicted To War is must reading for Americans of all ages, who are concerned with understanding the true nature of U.S. foreign policy and how it effects us here at home."

Martin Sheen, Actor
Click to see photo of Martin Sheen with the publisher of Addicted to War

~~~~~~~~~~
"Addicted to War should be assigned reading in American schools because it tells the true history of this nation's culture of war. Because of this book, many young students will think twice before considering enlistment in the military. How different things might have been had my son had a chance to read it. However, it is not too late for thousands of young Americans."
Fernando Suarez del Solar, whose son, Jess, died fighting in Iraq, March 2003
~~~~~~~~~~

"Addicted to War could not be more timely. It shows that the current war dance by the Bush administration is just the latest in a long series of foreign adventures that cause more damage than reward for us as a country. This book is one of the best tools we could hope for in making a transition from the U.S. being an empire to being just one nation in a community of nations. Use it, and change the world!"

Medea Benjamin and Kevin Danaher Co-founders of Global Exchange

~~~~~~~~~~
"I've come to the conclusion that if we don't change from a value system based on love of money and power to one based on love of compassion and generosity we will be extinct this century. We need a brief earthquake to wake up humanity. Addicted to War is such an earthquake."
Patch Adams, M.D. Founder of Gesundheit Institute, Vietnam War-era conscientious objector
~~~~~~~~~~

"This is the most important comic book ever written. To be a true patriot (in the American revolutionary sense) is to understand the cruelty of U.S. foreign policy. Read this book and pass it on to as many people as you can."

Woody Harrelson Actor

~~~~~~~~~~
"How can we wean ourselves from our dismal addiction to war? This book is a fine starting point. Reading it will help people get on the road to recovery."
Kathy Kelly Founder of Voices in the Wilderness
~~~~~~~~~~

"For those who have created a wall in their mind to resist questioning what the powers-that-be have taught them, this book may be the right battering ram."

William Blum Author of Killing Hope and Rogue State

~~~~~~~~~~
"Many years ago in Korea, I believed I was serving a righteous cause. When reality jarred my assumptions, I first reacted angrily. My honor was offended. Then I met other ex-military who helped me understand that while my motives were good, the policies I was asked to support were not. We banded together to use our experience to help head off future wars through education. One of our most effective tools is Addicted to War."
Wilson (Woody) Powell* Executive Director of Veterans for Peace
~~~~~~~~~~

"As a veteran of three wars, World War II through Vietnam, with 33 years of Army service, I findthis book to bethe most truthful recitation of our governments policies available anywhere."

Col. James Burkholder* U.S. Army, Retired

~~~~~~~~~~
"The U.S., with 4.5% of the worlds population, arrogantly plunders resources and cultures to support its American way of life. Addicted to War illustrates why the U.S. is necessarily dependent upon war to feed its shameful consumption patterns."
S. Brian Willson* Vietnam Veteran For Peace
~~~~~~~~~~

"Addicted to War is a rare gift to the American people. It should be read by every person who cares about the human condition. This book reveals truths that all Americans need to understand if we are ever to experience peace and justice for all the people of the earth."

Father Roy Bourgeois * Founder of School of the Americas Watch

~~~~~~~~~~
"Addicted to War should be required reading foreverystudent in America. I encourage educators to use it to help students understand the consequences of U.S. militarism for people here and around the world."
Rev. J. M. Lawson Colleague of Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. from 1957-1968
~~~~~~~~~~

"Addicted To War is an extraordinarily important and powerful little book. Every American should read it."

Ron Kovic,* Vietnam veteran, author of "Born on the 4th of July"

~~~~~~~~~~
"The enormous criminal impact of U.S. militarism on thepeople of the world and the people of the U.S. is hard to grasp. This book makes it easier to understand. Now we must ACT."
Ramsey Clark, * former Attorney General of the United States, author of "The Fire This Time: U.S War Crimes in the Gulf War"
~~~~~~~~~~

 "Political comics at its best. Bitterly amusing, lively and richly informative. For people of all ages who want to understand the link between U.S. militarism, foreign policy, and corporate greed at home and abroad."
Michael Parenti, author of "Democracy for the Few"

~~~~~~~~~~
"Our young people will learn more about the cult of militarism in this short and accurate book by Joel Andreas, than they might learn in their first twelve years of schooling. Withholding this kind of information from the young is a betrayal of the sacred trust given to educators. Withholding this kind of information has led to the deaths of hundreds of thousands of fine young people who have died as the enemy in places where they were not wanted. It has led to the death of millions of civilians who were completely innocent victims of the Addicts of War. Promulgating this book is a consciousness raising and life saving venture."
America was a good idea. It was even a good system, right up until the industrial revolution. Make no mistake folks, the industrial revolution was indeed a revolution and the soverignty of the american people was seized by the capitalists. This transfered the balance of power to a very select ruling elite class and this country has acted in the interests of that ruling elite ever since. Who the hell are we to police the rest of the world? We are the largest manufacturers adn exporters of chemical and biological weapons in the world, yet we don't allow anyone else to have them (unless we are selling it to them) we are the largest manufacturers of nuclear weapons, own the largest stockpiles, and yet we won't allow anyone else to have them (again unless we sell themt he technology)...Did you know that we were selling arms to both Iraq and Iran during the Iran Iraq war, not just selling them weapons, but selling them chemical weapons and other really nasty things. You guys touting the righteousness of any foriegn war need to wake up. Lets take Vietnam for example, did you know that Ho Chi Min contacted the US before the conflict broke out there asking for our aid? We told him to get lost and he asked the soviets for help, next thing you know, we are at war and the CIA was running subsidized opium. Take alook at South America, do you have the foggiest idea what kind of crap we have been involved in there? Lybia was a threat to the american way? LOL. Afghanistan? Yeah the evil taliban, you mean the same taliban we funded? Let's not forget the fact that we were the largest contributors to the Taliban, or the fact tha Bin Laden was a CIA asset during the Soviet Occupation, and let us not forget that we were all lovie dovie with the taliban while UNOCAl and Enron was courting them for the caspian sea pipline, yet after 9-11 we bombed the crap out of them, occupied them and set up a former UNOCAL consultant as their new presidente. Iraq was a threat to baseball and apple pie eh? LOL. How? For one thing, they had jack to do with 9-11, 12 years of harsh economic sanctions had literally starved them into third worldness, adn their military had been reduced by 80% in the first gulf joke, er war. That coupled with 12 years of UN intervention to prevent them from creating WMD's, i just don't buy into Iraq being much of a threat to a world superpower. And let's not forget, Hussien was our best buddy, in fact we installed Hussien. I don't even want to get started on WWII, except to sayt hat alot of americans were making money supporting Nazis, amung these were Henry Ford, Prescott Bush, Rockefeller, Harriman, Walker, all these guys were top notch capital fellows weren't they? Little has changed in this country, not even really the names. The capitalists siezed control of this country and drove us straight to hell. If you doubt this, you live in a fantasy. And don't go handing me that crap about how good I have it either, I'd be just as happy on the barter system in the third world, at least I could sleep knowing people weren't dying to support my righteousness thousands of miles away. there is a dangerous difference between patriotism and nationalism, recognise the difference, and you might start smelling the rats.
Please Grady, read the book yourself, and then post your own witty, scathing review.
Tear it to pieces if you like, but read it first. It's short. It's easy. There's no big words. It's got lots of pictures.
Just read it once, then feel free to make fun of every single page and everyone courageous enough to endorse it. If you can't get ahold of a copy, I'll send you mine. If it's just a bunch of lies, I'd really like to know.
Keep in mind, it presents no disrespect to the honorable soldier. It only examines the sometimes reprehensible decisions made by the men who decide the fate of our men in uniform.
I look forward to hearing your comments on any page of the book other than the back cover.
Listen up folks! This is pure marxist claptrap. America was a good idea before the industrial revolution. What was that? Fifty years? How old is America now. How long did Communism last as a viable system? How many people died as a result of this lie? Try 100,000,000.
America continues to be the most powerful nation on earth because here, a poor black child from Hope, Arkansas can study real hard, dodge the draft, cheat on his wife time and again and still become President of the United States.
Is this a great country or what?
EDIT:adding bit on communism as the wors is dotted around this topic
And for all you going on about "communism" there was never just "communism" you have flavours.. like marxisim trotskyism leninism maoism or stalinism... do you see the pattern forming here? The community never had anything to do with what happened in Russia, it was all oligarchy. Also note the popular revolution was hijacked a week after with Lenin and his bolshie freinds wlking into the Duma (russian parliament) and suspending it. No communism has never existed, it has been used to excuse COUNTLESS american invasions and to pretend to the people living under it that it is a system for the commune, therfore a complete RIP OFF!
So dont go round using the word communism like you know what it means please!
Wow. Lenin trots and stalin had nothing to do with russia eh?
To a good degree you are correct, and I would agree that what ended up happening in most 'communist' countries wasn't the ideal socialism that marx had wanted. If anything, it makes the wars against Soviet expansionism all the more justitifed
No communism has never existed, it has been used to excuse COUNTLESS american invasions
Even if this is true, the nations invaded in the cold war were supplied by the soviets and red chinese and trying to install their own similiar tyrannies.
So dont go round using the word communism like you know what it means please!
If a true communist state did exist, it would be as big or bigger a threat than the Soviet Union and Red China. It would be using war to start the class wars against the bourgoise, promoting an International Workers Revolution, detroying everything that was old and bringing in a new (being a true radicalism, by defintion its going to do this). So if the imperialist soviets weren't communist, what difference did it make?
Do you not understand how capital is distributed and generated in a capitalist system? Besides the fact that there isn't any pure capitalist economy on the planet, least of all the US.
I don't think he was saying the US is powerful becaue of this. He was saying that the US contributes more money to 'charitable' causes and humanitarian purposes than any other country on the planet. Perhaps it should stop, perhaps the governement shouldn't be sending food supplies to North Korea, especially since they broke a deal to not develope nuke tech in exchange for those food supplies? But then the famine over there would be worse, and the american public would be upset. I don't notice too much puplic outcry in France or Germany or Russia or very many other countries about global famine and such.
