Why orthodoxy?

What is it that leads people to insist or orthodoxy?

We see it in religion:

Christian
Roman Catholic, Eastern Catholic, Independent Catholic, Old Catholic, Lutheran, Reformed, Anabaptist, Baptist, Anglican, Methodist, Pentecostal. Eastern Orthodox, Jehovah's Witness, Unitarian...

Islam
Sunni, Shia, Sufism, Ahmadiyya, Ibadi, Quranists

Politics:

Socialism
Utopian socialism, State socialism, Liberal socialism, Democratic socialism, Market Socialism, Marxism-Leninism, Maoism...

Anarchism
Anarcho-capitalism, Anarcho-pacifism, Anarcha-feminism, Socialist anarchism...

And I think this even extends to music.

What is it that prompts people to seek to hyphenate and further divide like this, and then why defends these as orthodoxies?

Because people are stubborn. They get used to an idea which is really a "comfort zone" and they want to lock out changes. They get mad when others show up and go trying to change things.

A close parallel is when we use the word "original". Like the original manuscript as opposed to any "copies" that come after.

It has something to do with pride as well (refusing to let go). See the world is flat, and "here there be dragons".

Good question. I believe it is a result of a limited language. We are unable to define anything without some form of context to compare it with. All we can do is pile meaning upon other meanings.

We seem to have a tendency to want to define ourselves—hence labels—but once we realize that one label cannot encompass the entirety of our own definition of ourselves, but rather pigeon-hole and limit ourselves, we create more labels. These labels however, are built from the corpses of past labels.

bc all is evil so opposed to truth as if truth must b forgetten to take advantage better of being existing while meaning individual absolute comfort zone

so best way when u mean urself individually while knowing that u r within else and others in same space, is to mean hypocrit agreements that everyone implicitely would agree upon since in principle everyone is thinking the same best way to please or suit himself business alone

any objective disagreement or fight would testify that existence do not exist, since what exist is what is constant and what is constant is what is always fine

so everyone is used to think issues in the wrong way, forward instead of backwards

when u have smthg better it must replace what was not right, not adding to smthg else

It's the Ego and its insufferable need to be 'unique'. It's not coincidence that being a "Hipster" is even more common these days.
