The big question is why are people actually believing what Wright has to say. Preachers are basically con men who use their persuasion/ charisma to make a living. He could be telling the truth or simply saying things to for publicity. I have seen enough instances of preachers being arrested for everything from theft to rape to know they aren't any more trustworthy than an average person.

Frankly, over the hate issue, almost every church preaches hate now days. Though, the target tends to be homosexuals and pro choice women instead of whites.

Really?? Not my church! It is unfortunate that you actually believe that. If I ever heard it from my pastor, I would walk out mid sermon.

Yes, there are some radical churches out there but they do not represent the majority. Regarding Wright, he's been preaching the same rhetoric since 1972 including the 20 years Obama was a member of his flock.

It's easy to call Wright a liar when he is talking about Obama. That is the standard attack on anyone who dishes on Obama.... They don't call it Chicagoland for nothing....

Clearly you need to do your homework. Start combing the archived ATS threads on Wright... There are decades of his recorded sermons with Wright preaching HATE for the USA, Jewish people, White people etc etc its all there....

Typical. I wish you had the proof you claimed to. That could have made things interesting. I am not going fishing to try and prove you right. Obviously you cannot do it for yourself so it cannot be done.

You're exactly right
I completely understand your type. You're a dime a dozen around here. Learn to research, you'd be amazed what you can learn.

Do you believe the reverend is a good and honest person or not? This trying to have it both ways just comes off as retarded.

You cannot back up your claim. I asked you to back it up. You refused. I point out that I do not believe claims people cannot back up and that makes me a troll?

I wish you made sense when you wrote something.

This church is as much a hotbed of racism as the evangelical church is a hotbed of domestic terrorists who kill doctors, or the catholic church is a hotbed of pedophiles...etc..etc..

It is an old and bigoted attack. I have no doubt that Rev. Wright has said a great deal of irresponsible things, but no more than any other preacher looking to engage his congregation.

I remember the first (and last) time I visited Chicago with my family. It was back in 2006/07. We had just moved to WI, from NY (and So. Cali before that) and decided to spend a weekend in Chicago to get to know the city. We stayed at the Marriott at the Magnificent Mile.

After a great day of sight-seeing and a nice lazy dinner at a nice restaurant, we decided to walk back to the hotel so we could enjoy all the city lights and tire the kids out for bedtime.

I guess I was so enthralled with the scenery and soaking it all in, I was caught a little 'off-guard' (to say the least). I noticed a small group of people standing around what looked like a easel holding some kind of large sign, The people were passing out literature and yelling something. I couldn't understand what they were saying, but was very interested (in a very positive way), so I grabbed my son's hand and with a little excitement said to him, "let's see what this is all about"!! (Meanwhile, I didn't notice that my husband was rushing along to the other side of the street holding my daughter and yelling for my attention to follow.)

I just glanced over to my husband and gave him a gesture to come hither (all sill happy and obviously way ignorant of what I was walking into). BTW, I thought it was something 'artsy'. Something 'meaningful' that these people obviously felt passionate about and I was more than happy to expose my children to this as a learning opportunity. Boy, what an opportunity it was! Not the one I wanted to be teaching, or excusing, or even discussing at that very moment,

As we got up closer and the members circled around us (and a few circled some other 'walkers-by') they were chanting something. I was now in the middle, as was my son, and was completely confused. I thought I heard them correctly, but surely was mistaken. They kept on and on and on and followed us and I grabbed my son who was now scared. As I quickly re-assessed the situation and my quick walk turned to a fast trot, I noticed the large book on the easel was a mock bible with the pages open to some verses that were highlighted. They put pamphlet into my son's hand and I slapped the pamphlet away, telling them to leave us alone. They put another in his hand and another and another....

I looked over and saw a few cops running over. They were on foot and seemed to know this situation as they were yelling something about, "okay, let's pick it up...we told you before..." and the pamphlet people started spreading out and running away,

What were they chanting or yelling? They were chanting something about how the white people are of the devil...yelling down at my son and ignoring me, "boy, you know your mamma is a _______, she's the devil, boy don't listen to her..."and some other things not so nice.

The pamphlet was from this Rev's church. I was so disheveled and was so completely caught off guard, I mean, I really had been ignorant to all of that. I'd never heard of such a thing. Never. This was just so unreal, I mean to realize there are people like this out there. People that would yell things to my son. People who claim to be church-going and children of God. This was really a HUGE thing for me, it was so hard to understand.

That was TWO years before Obama came on the scene.

Oh, BTW, my children were 9 (son) and 4 (daughter)

Cool story, bro.

So they were warning your white devil son to watch out for his own white devil mamma? Annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd why would that be?

Not buying that for a second but it was funny.
