Sep 15, 2008: .0993 AU
Sep 7, 2012: .219 AU
Aug 28, 2016: .341 AU
Aug 23, 2020: .463 AU
Aug 15, 2024: .582 AU
Aug 8, 2028: .7 AU

As you can see, it is migrating away from a potential collision though it's orbit could fluctuate a little in either direction. In any case, I'll probably already be dead if/when it does hit Earth.

Gee, you sound quite confident there pal. Please explain to me why the millions of amateur astronomers in the world have not discovered this yet and told absolutely everybody they know.

Add the word "known" in there, and feel happy for yourself being more skeptical than CNN. Also note that that's not a quote from one of these scientists.

NEOs don't appear out of "nowhere". There's a very limited number of people looking for them, and there's a LOT of sky. If you don't want to trust the so-called "scientists", join the cause and look for the doomsday rock yourself.
