This is so cool!! Turns out these black holes are always eating stars. (This could be us on Dec. 21st 2012 right? lol) Now there is finally a live action video of this happening. Could any of you tech savvy ATSers out there post the video up so it makes it easier for people to see? Thanks in advance and enjoy

baltimore.cbslocal.com...

Black holes are out there sucking up stars like cosmic vacuum cleaners. But they’re invisible. We’ve never seen them work in real time… until now. A Hopkins-led team found a star caught by a black hole’s gravity. “And when it got really close, the gravitational force of the black hole literally ripped it apart, stretched it into a thin stream,” Dr. Suvi Gezari, a Hopkins astronomer, said

“So these two telescopes are scanning the sky, waiting for something interesting to happen,” Gezari said. And it did. The light and energy that reached their instruments was created 2 billion years ago when the only living things on earth were microbes.

If we are catching phenomenon like this, surely there would be plenty of UFO out there right? Ehh, they wouldnt tell us if there were anyhow

I would hardly call the possible destruction of life and civilizations 'COOL'. The terror faced by life on any surrounding planets is hard to comprehend.
I would describe this instead as fascinating or amazing. Fascinating to see, but to imagine we could be looking at the deaths of millions of lifeforms is very tragic.

It would be nice to see the actual event and not an animated version....But cool anyways!

I was really excited to see that and all of a sudden....This is a computer animation of what it looked like....

God damn, that story HAD to have been linked by the Drudge Report. There is just too much random off topic Obama hate lol.

At any rate, the video was great. First time observing a black hole is like the first time going to the moon. This is pretty big.
