Argentina's Congress nationalized the country's biggest oil company, YPF, by an overwhelming lower house vote on Thursday that underscored broad popular support for a measure that threatens to scare off foreign investment.

"It's a good move for the country because if the government does not control strategic resources such as oil, it loses power," said financial analyst Leonardo Rodriguez, 32, as he sipped a latté in the well-heeled Buenos Aires neighborhood of Puerto Madero.

I am happy to see that South America is moving toward's Socialism. The Oil Industry is a great place to start as far as Nationalization goes. The public must take back all Public Utilities. When the public owns nothing, the public has no power.Bolivia sent in the Army to take over a power transmission company on May Day in another indicator of South America's move to Socialism.

Both Bolivia and Argentina have demonstrated that if a majority of a population want radical change,it can happen. Fidel Castro kicked the Capitalist's out of Cuba. It can be done.I think more countries in South America. Africa and Europe will turn to Nationalization and Socialism. Socialism is the logical next step after Capitalism is put out of its misery. The IMF are saying they are not worried but as usual I dont believe them. Nationalization is the one thing that can destroy the IMF and the Imperialism that it spread's.

“It's a very diverse region and we would not call what we are seeing a trend,” IMF spokesman Gerry Rice told reporters, responding to a question about Bolivia's decision this week to nationalize the local unit of Spain's Red Electrica. Rice declined to comment on the Bolivian move, but repeated the IMF position that “a predictable investment climate is crucial in all countries and in all regions.”

Nationalization is what can save Europe. Taxing the 'rich' is not good enough. All Public Utilities should be owned by the people. All Public Services should be owned by the people. The Oil Industry is the best place to start the push for Nationalization in the West. Everyone wants cheaper fuel and nobody likes Oil Companies. After Oil is Nationalizied we Nationalize the Electricity provider's.Then we Nationalize a percentage of Food Production to ensure a cheap source of food and to put downward presure on Food Prices. After that we pass legislation to limit market shares of Corporation's like Microsoft/Apple and Walmart to guard against monopolization. Coporation's will also be made to keep a majority of jobs in the country they claim to operate out of and pay international workers the same rate as they do in the country they claim to be from. That way Apple must pay the US minimum wage to any worker including employee's of Apple fronts like Foxconn. All nation's will be encouraged to work towards becoming self sufficient. There will be a salary cap for all people. There will be a profit margin cap for all business. The taxpayer will be the richest person in every nation. The IMF will be a distant memory and we will have uptopia.

Chalk them up on the list after Syria / Iran.

Everyone should know by now that owning your own oil / bank = "Humanitarian Aid"

Good for them....seems like a lot of the smaller countries are seeing the light and saying "F U" to the system currently destroying the planet.

I agree. I wonder how long it takes for Europe to see the light. I think its only a matter of time before some European countries jump ship. Spain Greece and Portugal would be good places to try Nationalization. There is growing resentment towards Germany and the IMF all across europe.

I wonder how the Imperial Empire handles democracies that vote for Nationalization? Im sure it will be creative because the Imperial IMF and friends cannot afford to allow nations to Nationalize major industries.

Now that right there is funny isn't it. Under Socialism the taxpayer will be the richest person? Tell me how many poor people pay taxes in the US? Do you even know the stats on who actually pays the bills and who doesn't?

Now if Obama and you guys have your way and turn the US into a Socialist or Communist country. Instead of fighting you, I'll just sit by my mailbox and wait for my gov't check. I'm really tired of going to work 6 days a week with two jobs just to stand in line behind someone buying better food than I can afford using their food stamp card.

when the powers that be lose control of an oil company, they focus their strategy on the politicians.

before you know it, they're driving around in bentley's, and all of the nationalized companies, become the private atm of politicians, prices go up and the people don't reap any of the benefits.

corruption doesn't distinguish between capitalism, communism or fascism.

it's up to the people to hold them accountable.

Obama is the furthest thing from a socialist or even a leftist. He is a right wing corporatist fascist, the only wealth distribution he sponsors is giving money from the middle class to the RICH.

If anything more states should implement the method that Alaska has. Most land in Alaska is unclaimed. It is owned by the State of Alaska. An oil company leases the land from the state to explore for oil. The land still belongs to the people of Alaska. If they find oil they pay a royalty to the people of Alaska for the oil they removed from the people's land.

The ability to privatize oil reserves on personal property is the same scary thought process that is being used to privatize aquifers.

Hmmm, that would explain why the Brits have been hovering around the falklands. It's time for another intervention, Libya style. There is no way Big Oil (and their controllers) are going to tolerate this type of behaviour. Look out soon on the MSM for so called 'human atrocities' at the hands of Argentina's tyrannical government.

Peace Out

PS - But then again, this is the birth place of Che Ernesto Guevara so who knows what will transpire - "Hasta La Victoria Siempre"
