Channel 6 KOTV - Tahlequah Mom Admits to Burning Babies Testicles with Flat Iron

I live in Northeastern Oklahoma and every day when I look at the local news I see either something to do with a meth lab or a horrible child abuse case or both in most cases. It seems like it has gotten worse in the last couple of years with parents around here brutally abusing or killing their children. This case is extremely brutal and just brings tears to my eyes. It makes me wonder what the reason behind this sort of abuse is and why there are so many more cases per year now. Do you think it is drug use? Desensitized generation of young mothers? I personally think these young moms just have babies and don't realize that they have to raise them. They see them as an accessory and when they realize they have to take care of the child it becomes a problem. So they begin to torture the baby but my question is what makes a mother do this to their own child? Do you think mental issues are playing a part? Postpartum depression on the rise? I don't want to lump all young mother's into a pile (I myself had my first child at 18) but the statistics are staggering when you look at these abuse cases. So what are your thoughts on the influx in child abuse cases in our country? Or do you think these things happen all the time and the MSM is just now starting to ramp up the doom stories due to the interest in cases like this? (i.e. Casey Anthony, etc) I would love to here your thoughts. Thanks for reading.

Thinking of my own son and how helpless he was at that age, my heart just broke.

Sick people.

Words fail.

To burn a child.... that's pre-meditated. Sometimes parents lose their temper and hurt a child, but to burn a baby?

I hope they put her BELOW the prison.

Hey Linsday, I too am in Tulsa, I am pretty taken back by some of the crap I see in the news but its not just here. It is everywhere. The world is a pretty sick place. I have two kids and am just trying to make sure they get raised right and know right from wrong and I am a firm believer that if someone is raised correctly they typically turn out to be good adults.

I agree completely. I'm trying to raise my kids right and it is hard to be a parent but I can never imagine treating my own child like that. It is even harder to see people treat their children like this when I have a son who has a terminal disease. I would give anything to have more time with him and these people throw their sweet babies away like trash. It is super sad but this is the world we live in.

I agree.. I recently divorced so my time is more limited with my kids. Luckily they are both happy and healthy and I am doing my best to keep it that way. Things like this in the news just make you shake your head. Maybe it is time to issue a license before allowing people to have babies..

That and mandatory sterilization if you abuse your child. I know that won't happen since it impends on a person's rights but I think like anything you should lose the privilege to reproduce if you torture a child.

I agree 100%. I would vote for that in a heartbeat.

Lindsay1984:

As to your questions about why we "hear" about these cases (actually nationwide) so much--I think it's several reasons:

1) Abuse is cyclical--the mother and/or boyfriend were abused as children--and barely adults themselves repeat the pattern that was played out on them. Not an excuse. Probably nothing happened to their own parents so they now need jail-time, counseling, etc. until the proper treatment works...if it works

2) Overall economic issues/stresses and alcohol/drug abuse have played roles in creating "less than"-type parents who are more concerned with themselves than their children

3) MSM tendency to focus on these instances in order to "normalize" the behaviors, and boost ratings. A population focused on such sad, depressing topics is likely to ignore what is going on with TPTB , or begin to "get ideas" from such horrendous stunts...

I am so sorry that you have a child that is terminally ill, and really, this is where the media should focus. Fundraising and education for those families trying to get by with the situations life has dealt them. Not the other way around.

My thoughts are with you....Peace....

I agree completely. It is hard to watch the news because of the negative stories all the time. Rarely do I see a nice story of someone doing good or trying to do good. It's all doom and gloom. I'm sure a lot of it is trying to desensitize us to where we start to accept more and more until we don't notice all the evil around us. I'm afraid for my children to grow up in a country that is going downhill this fast.

Also thank you for your kind words.

I"m sure there are many issues, I know one woman who after her 3rd child never recovered from her post partum depression.

I read an article earlier that suicide rates have been going up co-insiding with the economic mess around the world, I'm sure a sense of hopeless ness might have a part

But for a mother to torture her infant like that...something else is out of wack

So highly disturbed right now.

It might be a cycle to be honest. You said it's gotten worse in the last few years. It might be that these young women who have kids were abused younger too, and with each generation it becomes more severe.

Very disgusted.
