This isn't a rant so much as a personal observation and a humble request.

I realize ATS is a venue for top notch discussion and analysis of every topic under the sun. We all have our reasons for being members and I think most of us can say there is no better place with the open mindedness and independant thought pocesses that come from most posts. Things sometimes get heated because there are a lot of passionate people here and with the anonymity it's very easy to get taken away in our haste to be heard.

With that in mind, my request is for us to be mindful and respectful when posting our views. I'm not talking about the blatant name calling and immaturity of some, but the posters who seem very knowledgeable in their chosen field especially in regards to spiritual topics.

For instance, every now and then there seems to be a hot topic of debate. This past week the pros and cons of Christianity seemed to be the craze. You all know like I do that personal beliefs is just that - a personal belief. I was shocked and dismayed at some of the statements both pro and con. Its one thing to give your opinion, but another entirely different thing to lash out and show disrepect by attempting to disprove why they are wrong and disillusioned IMO.

Please think about how and what you say to another in this regards. Even if you meant your comment to another poster egging you on there are still other posters you may call your online friend reading your comments. How do you think they feel when they read your derogatory comments about their own personal beliefs being thrashed? I felt very bad for people here I respect having to read some of the bashings their religion took.

So please can we all be more discerning in what comments are appropriate for ALL of us to read?

By the way, here is the definition of Namaste. Please use it respectfully in the context it is meant when using it to close your posts. Thank you.

The gesture Namaste represents the belief that there is a Divine spark within each of us that is located in the heart chakra. The gesture is an acknowledgment of the soul in one by the soul in another. "Nama" means bow, "as" means I, and "te" means you. Therefore, Namaste literally means "bow me you" or "I bow to you."

Thanks for the post OP. Stars n flags it would be really really nice if we all could work a little harder to respect each others beliefs or disbeliefs. Once the insults start flying it's very hard not to fire back and then the fireworks start. I have to say that I'm glad I'm not a mod. Deciding which posts cross the line I'm sure can be difficult at times.

Thanks for responding Britelite. Yes, it would be nice to have more compassion for the other persons point of view and not respond in the heat of the moment. Every one of us can learn from each others prospective if we take the time to converse instead of trying to instill our "truths" onto others.
