Respected science publications

What makes a science publication respected?
What are some well-respected publications out there now?

Good peer reviews, good editorial staff, ability to present opposing or novel views -- AFTER the research has been checked.

Scientific American is the classic, Nature is good, Journal of the American Medical Society is top-notch (and VERY rough on the writers. VERY picky standards. If it's in JAMA, you can rely on the data as a rule), Journal of Cell Biology, American Journal of Mathematics, Journal of Astrophysics and Astronomy, Sky & Telescope.

...and so forth. There's a zillion of them. Basically, you'd find the magazines in the collections of the grad schools of major universities around the world.

well i don't know if it's respected but i read Discover. they cover a very broad base of subjects from space exploration to human behavior. i haven't really read to many other science mags, every once in a while i pick up popular science.
