I very clearly remember Alvin Shwartz's Scary Story books from grade school. They were available for order in the children's book pamphlets given to us to encourage reading. The illustrations in those books are some of the most disturbing I have ever seen even to this day, and most certainly from a children's book. I loved them!

Edit: The artist's name is Stephen Gammell.

Banning books usually says a lot more about the person or group attempting the censorship than it does about the subject matter.

The pleasant effect in today's readily available information age is often that a banned book enjoys greater publicity - and through that - increased sales and wider desemination.

I purchased Mein Kamph soley because it was commercially banned here. I have no real interest in reading it through, he's not a very good author. But the point was that I was not going to let someone else tell me what books I should and should not own.
Ha!
