I have to say I remember this myself after being given one much like mine from members of other fraternies. One time I knew the other guy from my first year in school and we were at a bar and shook hands. We both realized at that moment we had something in common, our grip, between our respective fraternities. Luckily mine was an informal one.
You can only do so much with a hand shake without drawing attention to it.
