Pakistan Flexes Missile Muscle with Test Launch

blogs.voanews.com

Pakistan's military said it successfully test-fired an upgraded Shaheen-1 missile Wednesday. The Shaheen-1 is capable of hitting targets in India with a nuclear weapon, and this upgraded version is thought to have an even longer reach.

Pakistan is the main base of al Qaeda

Americans either do not understand or pretend not to understand that the Pakistani nuclear capability is much greater threat to U.S. than even the nuclear potential of Russia

real threat to the U.S., Europe, Russia - Al Qaeda
and not a mythical from Iran and North Korea
russia, china, iran or n.korea will never attack usa
they know this is the momentary death for them
al Qaeda can steal nuclear weapon in Pakistan for terract in US,RF or EU

I agree with what you are saying. Its absurd that the Western media bangs on about Iran and North Korea when Pakistan and India are armed. Why are they allowed to have nukes? Why does America send aid to Pakistan?

At stake is the continued flow of U.S. economic aid and military support to Pakistan, America’s iffy partner in the fight against terrorism and religious extremism. Congress is not expected to shut off the nearly $3 billion in assistance planned for 2012. Despite deep misgivings

www.theblaze.com...

hmm

The 3 billion could help the poor in America alot. Instead 3 billion goes to the Pakistan Military. And that is just the tip of the iceberg as far as 'foriegn aid' goes. Is it 'aid'? Really? Or should we call it something else?

I knew this was going to happen after India did that long-range missile test a few days ago. Very predictable, in my opinion - one country does one thing; the other has to one-up them. After things being relatively calm for the past few years all India has done is stoke the flame of rivalry between those two countries.

Way to go, India! Don't stop now. Better perform a clandestine nuclear test when nobody expects it. That'll show 'em (Pakistan, that is).

Ugh.

The real problem here is not Al-Qa’ida’s presence in Pakistan or the presence of other terrorist groups but what this means for the wider region. This test comes only days after India tested its own ICBM and it wasn’t so long ago that India also commissioned a Russian build nuclear submarine joining an elite group of states to have such a weapon. This arms build-up in addition with the continuing tension between India and Pakistan over territorial disputes and the Pakistani backed attack on Mumbai in 2008 all points to a massive increase in Pakistani/India relations that could lead to war or even a repeat of the 1998 nuclear weapons tests.

The actual threat of Al-Qa’ida or any other terrorist groups is actually very slim, it’s not just as simple as stealing the bomb and currently Al-Qa’ida do not have the capability to conduct such an operation inside Pakistan. Current estimates say that Pakistan could have up to 200 (could be as little though as 80-90) nuclear devices yet have at least 8000 troops protecting those weapons who have massive support from the American military complex to ensure their security. Al-Qa-ida does not have the capacity to launch an effective attack to capture a patent nuclear device and use it. The bombs are all highly guarded by thousands of armed forces, stored underground, in components stored in different area’s and electronically locked and then there are the counter command measures and safe guards that are in place. In short very difficult for any terrorist organisation to steal one of their bombs let alone use it.

The reason that Pakistan has nuclear weapons is to defend itself from India, that as I have already stated is the real threat form this test, that it will cause further tensions and step up the arms race between the two regional super-powers.

Atomic demolition munitions (ADMs), colloquially known as nuclear land mines, are small nuclear explosive devices. ADMs were developed for both military and civilian purposes. As weapons, they were designed to be exploded in the forward battle area, in order to block or channel enemy forces. Non-militarily, they were designed for demolition, mining or earthmoving. However, apart from testing, they have never been used for either purpose.

Military uses

Instead of being delivered to the target by missiles, rockets, or artillery shells, ADMs were intended to be emplaced by soldiers. Due to their relatively small size and light weight, ADMs could be emplaced by military engineers or Special Forces teams, then detonated on command or by timer to create massive obstructions. By destroying key terrain features or choke points such as bridges, dams, mountain passes and tunnels, ADMs could block the movement of enemy forces or channel them into prepared killing zones.[1]

According to official accounts, the United States deployed ADMs overseas in Italy and West Germany during the Cold War.[2] Recent scholarship also indicates that the most

Al Qaeda doesn't exist. Since does a terrorist network care about Global warming?

I have absolutely no doubt that this was a response to the Indian missile test in the past weeks.

And I have no doubt that the Indian missile test was a statement of it's capabilities after the North Korea rocket launch, and later findings regarding the supply of China technology to North Korea.

Now, what people should be thinking about is, why is everyone on the world starting to show up their military penises and why so many countries are making a clear statement that they do have nukes and know how to use them.

India shows a missile that can strike deep inside China territory (China is vast, which means that it's hard to hit it's core facilities), and then Pakistan does the same and states it can hit targets inside India with nuclear warheads.

"Funny" times we live in.
