The M16 is an excellent form factor for a coilgun. Truly. The receiver is the perfect size.

It equipped the US Army AND the USMC for a couple of decades. It was superseded by the .223 M-16 because of docrinal changes concerning rate of fire, use at short ranges and a few other considerations.
