The cornerstone to all profit-driven business is REPEAT CUSTOMERS, as you alluded to here with the oil industry.

Why people forget this is beyond me. Planned obsolescence and manufactured scarcity are also big concepts used along with the repeat-customer cornerstone. You don't want a guy coming in and buying a lightbulb that lasts a lifetime do you? Of course not, you want that guy to have to come in and buy a lightbulb every coupla years or so. So, you have to design it to break at some point.

If we can use the space shuttle over and over and over again, you'd think they could make door handles on my car that won't break on the dot every three years.

This is applied EVERYWHERE, and a degree in economics is not required to grok this concept and see how it is used.

I would say that you are accurate in a great deal of your assessment. However, with regard to the American public education system, if you do some more digging you will find that in the late 1960's and early 1970's the standard curriculum in most public schools was changed to the same model that was forced upon Prussia by the Nazi's, as a response to the belief that the social upheaval of the 1960's was a result of the masses being a little "too" educated. The Prussian model was specifically designed to create the very phenomenon you describe: obedient consumers and workers who could do jobs that trained monkeys could do if they weren't so damn expensive...banana's have always been a premium.

You might want to read the book The Underground history of education. By Gatto. It shows how the Public ed system was meant to alienate children from their parents and make them willing slaves and consumers.

It only takes about 100 hours to learn to read, another hundred hours for basic math skills, The school system keep children prisoner for 12 years to keep them from thinking not to teach them to.

Why are you putting this onus on me, exactly? What is this, problems are like farts now, and the smeller's the feller - you find it you fix it? I don't know about you, but I do not want ME fixing that hole in my oil pan, I want to take it to someone who knows what they're doing - experts in plugging oil pan holes. Not software engineers.

In other words, by this logic, that means that YOU get to fix the bug YOU found in the software that *I* wrote.

It's been a slow slog through awakening a significant portion of the population to the fact that there is a better way to live on this planet and beyond.

Of course people in power want more power and to keep it. No reptiles needed. People are caught in their reality tunnels on both sides of the divide.

It's only been a few generations since the divine right of kings was dogma and lower economic classes were seen as stupid animals... and that view still echoes through resorts, estates and country clubs at the moment.

Why should any one group hold so much wealth? They certainly didn't get it without murder, injustice and exploitation.

The greater part of any population is engaged in survival and that in itself is the perfect control mechanism. With mass communication and other tech, we are at a point were we could work toward economic freedom for all. All we have to do is organize and act ...which is the bump in the road.

People are still in the dark and don't realize they are deserving of a life worth living... instead they scorn "deadbeats" and berate them to find non existant subsistance jobs and dream of their own rise to wealth and vote against their own economic interests again and again.

So, what is keeping us from our potential is the permission granted to us...

Not only that but some research grants prohibit finding solutions. If someone pays you to research how to fix a problem, and you do just that - fix it, there goes your money. There is no financial incentive to find a solution, unless you somehow locked yourself in to reap the benefits of that solution.

Business people don't like that, so good luck with that.
