Tonight, Saturn is at opposition--directly opposite the sun in the skies of Earth.
Saturn will rise at sunset and continues it's ascension until midnight. About this time, Saturn is in close to opposition and the rings brighten. This
is the Seeliger Effect. In the photo above, you will notice a Northern Electrostatic Disturbance, this was detected by the spacecraft Cassini a few
days ago.
It can be seen as a white patch north of the green belt.
