PYONGYANG, NORTH KOREA—North Korean leader Kim Jong Un spoke publicly for the first time Sunday, just two days after a failed rocket launch, praising his father Kim Jong Il’s “military first” policy during celebrations marking the 100th birthday of the nation’s late founder.

Kim Jong Un has since underlined the country’s “military first” policy with a budget that allocates a sizable chunk of funding to defence spending.

That really seems to be more bad news for the North Korean citizens. Looks like he just wants to spend more money on military and less money on trying to feed the population.

Hopefully he is just passing on propaganda because who knows what will happen if increased military spending really destabilizes the region.

He's just blowing smoke when he says he will talk seriously about reunification of Korea. There is no way S. Korea would just volunteer to be like N. Korea. The only reunification would be by force.

He said he is “heartbroken” that the rival Koreas have been divided for decades, and said North Korea “will co-operate with anyone” who truly wishes for reunification.

I was hoping he would take the nation down a different path. Guess that's not going to happen.

It seems the nut didn't fall far from the tree.

The thing is he cant just break down and give in...

"I express my greetings to our compatriots in South Korea and across the world who dedicate themselves to reunification and the prosperity of the nations," he said reading from a script, in an address which lasted more than 20 minutes, as the crowds applauded throughout.

Maybe this is him trying to give out the olive branch I think we should at least go along with it and see what happens this might be the leader who will turn things around...

Kim Jong Un priority for military is also clear with his recent change in title to Chairman of the central military commission. As reunification continues to slowly move along, a united Korea will still have a military and it looks like Kim Jong Un want to play an important role with this government branch. Merging the North and South armies is going to be a tough job with so much entrenched, chronic conflict.

As long as Kim Jong Un remains respectful of the other branches of government and does not aim to become supreme leader of everything, I can see it working. It is good that Kim is making his aims and desires clear so other parts of the reunification process can fall in line. His language does come across quite strong and a bit fanatical having all the top 3 or 4 priorities on the military, but for where he is personally at in the reunification process it does make sense.

Personally I dont give a too hoots what this toe rag has said or not. The regime is evil. The leaders are evil and it needs to be got rid of and even if it is a more liberated N Korea with a democractic socialist country is far better than what is in place now. I feel sorry for the general population. It is going to take many years for them to adjust when revolution does take place. Either that or face being bombed into oblivion if the Kim decides to test another nuke as is being rumoured. Even the Chinese are fed up now and have had enough, North Korea for them is like having a burst appendix. Time to sort this place out for once and all.

Although this man if very frightening like his father, I do not believe he plans on using any type of weapons on any country. The main reason is because, like his father, he knows that he would have his country basically taken away from him. The UN along with numerous other countries would bring an end to him quickly. Don't get me wrong, I do not like war and blood shed, but if he is foolish enough to attack another country, unprovoked, then he is just asking for it.
