Above all one must PLAN.

I would make an initial and ongoing assessment of the situation and choose from 4 plans.

I would consider the location and degree of all civil unrest, is there electricity, fuel, travel, water, food deliveries, medical care, law enforcement; etc. available and if not when might each be restored.

I could decide to stay put in an urban environment, equipped for a year..

I could decide to flee about 30 miles and camp in the church parking lot of a small town with very nearby massive grain elevators and a 'clean' (no sewerage or industrial waste, JUST farm runoff) large creek. The grain may be GMO but I really would not care given the circumstances. I have a Diamant hand cranked grain mill which would be in big demand.

If there is no vehicle travel I may decide to flee to very desolate rugged woods full of ravines just a quarter mile from home.

OR I may decide it just is not worth surviving, give all my goods to someone who can see it out and have a productive life, possibly a young doctor. I am age 69 have lived a FULL life and do not fear death.

Step #1 - Shred the check to the IRS that's sitting on my desk.

Step #2 - Withdraw as much cash as possible from banks, etc.

Step #3 - Help my kids/grandkids move into my place. I'm best prepared for a bad scenario based on location, visible perimeter, food stores, living quarters and armaments.

After that it's simply a matter of watching the rest of the world fight it out amongst themselves.

Most important to me will be my kids making it to me. We have a plan, they know to come home, but until they get there, I will be a bit of a basket case I'm sure.

For Krakenpit as well... I hate to say this, but I imagine one of the first things the government will do is lock down the schools. They are going to want to protect their property, the future investment in indoctrination. So your children will be held hostage, keeping you in place. You may have a 15 to 30 minute window to get them out and home, but I don't think the government will allow them to leave the school of their own accord. Since I have been exposed to quite a bit of military strategy, if I was an evil prick it's what I would do to keep the parents from revolting. Nothing worse than having someone you love as a hostage, it tends to occupy your mind in everything you do and "they" know it.

Something to think about.

Cheers - Dave

That's why being prepared beforehand gives us an advantage. Few people have a plan for such a scenario, and fewer yet have the means to actually do it. If they hold our kids from us, we go in and withdraw them from school ourselves, forcefully if necessary.

Something I would not have thought about. So I guess I'm lucky.
Should have clarified though, mine are 19 and 22. It will take 1 an hour to walk to me, the other about 3.

It is extremely hard to say what the plans would be, absent a scenario, but my primary goal would be the protection of my family and all that it entails. Ultimately, service and protection of the state would be a close second and that would begin in the community. In an SHTF situation, looters will be shot on sight, so it would be prudent to gather essentials before hand, and possibly stuff to barter with. People with the mentality that they can just take what they need will not fare well.

If TSHTF tomorrow, I won't be concerned about anything. Already have guns, food, antibiotics (thx Mexico), and pain killers.

Good thing you stocked up on your antibiotics already because the law changed in Mexico and now requires a prescription to buy antibiotics. We're becoming more like our neighbors to the north everyday.

You could buy antibiotics and other survival necessities from a livestock feed and supply store, in bulk if you like. Your cow uses many of the same medicines as you do and doesn't need a note from her doctor.

What? Are you kidding? I was just down there in October last. That is the first I have heard of this.

Besides getting antibiotics from the feed store, people can also purchase them at your local pet store in the FISH section. The same powder/drops you put in the tank for your fish is the exact same regular antibiotics people take. It is actually pretty cheap but not in pill form.

Since we're talking about pets...people keep buying dog wormers from their vet for an ungodly price. The local feed store sells cattle and sheep wormers in liquid form for about $10 a bottle. Give your dog a few drops of cattle one month on bread and the next month sheep wormer. Stick the bottle in the fridge for a whole year. With all that money saved, buy some ammo!

other than that...having a nice seat from which to watch the antics. I am not going to be a prepper. If it is time to go, it is time to go. When your heart stops beating and your brain stops firing....you'll never know the difference anyway....oblivion is like that.

Of course it's a personal decision, and I'm sure protecting one's offspring will be paramount among those of a younger age.
I'll be content to hunker down with loved ones, and hope that death ( if unavoidable ) won't be too physically painful.
We'll all have a whole other world to deal with on the other side anyway, and need to face that with a clear understanding of what we're actually worth, as the human beings we've made of ourselves on "this side".

Important to me?

My family first.
Then myself so that I can protect my family.
Then my neighbors, because we take care of one another and you can't go it alone, better to form a small "community".

They rest is to evaluate the situation and decide from there.

Food, water,protection,communication.
