All this just makes me wonder if aliens are just a contemporary
version of elves, faeries, etc. Perhaps we get too easily bored
with human existence and the fact that there are often very
dull explanations for phenomena we hope to be "mysterious".
While I believe in the likelihood of intelligent life elswhere in the
universe, I doubt we have ever been visited. If the supposed
visitors have gained the technology necessary for long
distance space travel, how could such a comparatively primitive
and chaotic civilization possibly give them cause to stay hidden from
us? If they had no concept of violence, I would imagine that they would
not recognize our violent acts as such. I would think that they would
instead see them as parts of our exsistence, no different from
eating and drinking. The universe is an observably violent place.
Perhaps not the type we create here, but certainly we know of
things that happen in space that would require comparatively
delicate life forms to seek some sort of protection from some
sort of violent action or occurence, thus a concept of violence.

The evidence for alien visitation is usually tantalizing and ambiguous,
which to me makes it next to useless. When the evidence is as easily
apparent as the monitor before me, rather than the usual "a friend of a
friend of a friend" taking blurry pictures and shooting blurrier video, etc.
then I think we finally have something other than idle speculation. I would
certainly love to to have a close encounter so that I would stop thinking
that too many people have watched too much of the XFiles and have
projected a mentality derived from that show onto how they view our world.
