Thats a larger than normal amount of +5 earthquakes for such a small time period, not saying unheard of, but larger than normal, if it continues this busily with +5 EQ for much longer, ill star worrying, but for now, i just see a statistical inevitability of higher than normal amount of EQ.

Well, when you take something out of the earth...it leaves a hole right? Well if you take enough of it out you create a spot within the crust that will fill itself with something else to take the place of what was removed. Like fracking for instance. They pump water down a hole to loosen the shale and suck out natural gas......only 35% or so of the water returns to the surface....so that leaves a considerable space where the crust has to re-shift weight in the sense that the further toward the center of the earth you go the stronger the gravity and pressure.

This re-shift can cause quakes due to the amount of mass that needs to be redistributed....so yes this could cause problems if its done to much in any given area. Where they drill is just as important as how deep they drill. Deep water Horizon is a prime example.....these clowns bored a hole 5 miles down at the base of the New Madrid seismic plate in the gulf. That coupled with the fact that at that depth there's a tremendous amount of pressure due to gravity.......Im surprised the ole miss didn't get a real shaker from that...and in actuality it is my belief that its still leaking into the waters of the gulf....I mean they sealed a well right? They didn't seal all of them!

But Im getting off topic, in short yes, the earth can only spit out its guts for so long before we start seeing it spit out kidneys. The magma displacement around the crustal sections that are hollowed out so to speak push back to the surface creating slip and then quakes even if localized to one small area of effect.

That and we have no idea whats below us, and if that drill is off by a foot....you could easily open up a chasm just sitting there under the surface full of magma to make things worse. Any kind of disturbance no matter how small affects tectonic weight.

HA HA HA very true friend...very true. What bothers me though is the fact that all of these quakes have been along the same juncture...not just the ring of fire.....this would elude to a much deeper problem than just tectonic plates ramming each other....I'm talking about energy under the earths crust....which coincidentally would explain the sink hole phenom.

I for one do. I believe the North American Plate is being put under stress. I check the quake map frequently, and it looks to me that the plate is being outlined with quakes in places. I'm sure some members will refute this, but I have also been getting very strong headaches lately, like another member stated. I think stress is building up.

I don't want anyone to die or see harm come to them. BUT if a little rumblin is what makes people realize just how small and insignificant we really are in the grand scheme of things so be it.

It may very well take a huge catastrophe for others to realize just how petty our everyday concerns are, and then, and only then will we come together for the betterment of mankind.

Alas, this kind of thing has happened before, and we as a species don't seem to learn lessons very well.

So yes...place yer bets....grab a lawn chair and watch the show....thats all we can physically do IMO. The earth is p*ssed and humankind will suffer the most either directly or indirectly......that much is certain.
