AboveTopSecret is much like a theme park with many, many rides, with that said...
Here's a few thoughts before getting onto any one of the 1000's of topical rides at Above Top Secret, also known as ATS, the world's largest Civil & Unique Discussion Community.

*** Please be at least this tall to get on any of the rides, (Johnny stretches his arm outward), and act like an 'civil' adult. This will save you a lot of future stress, frustration and possible action by one of your friendly neighborhood Mods!

*** Please remember that some members are very passionate and vocal depending on what ride your on. Before getting on a ride, you should be mentally fit, emotionally stable and have a strong stomach for theories, conjecture, research and evidence presented that may be contrary to your own.

*** Please be "open-minded" enough to understand that sometimes the ride isn't always what you might think or expect. At times, you may learn something new and 'out-of-the-box' before you get off the ride, this is a natural and normal phenomena.

*** Please note that at times the ride gets overly-heated and "it's strongly suggested" to get off the ride to regroup one's thoughts before continuing. This will also help guarantee that the ride will move forward without getting derailed or explode into a fiery trashbin.

*** Please have fun! Be aware if you act in an uncivil-like manner, use profanity, troll, intentionally spread a hoax and/or get verbally abusive, you will be removed off the ride by a Moderator. This is for your safety, & also for those both young and old on the ride with you.

So buckle up, keep your arms within the ride's comfort zone, have fun and "Deny Ignorance"...!

Does that mean there is a forum on this site for letting people know about a new book they might enjoy?

Probably not I'm guessing.

The problem with self promoton is you're damned if you do and you're damned if don't. You need to find a way of letting people that might be interested in it know it's out there. There are people out there like HomerinHC who was asking for people to let him know about any UFO based novels he could fall asleep reading. I thought mine would probably be perfect for that, a perfect cure for insomnia, so I let him know. I thought there must be plenty of others out there that love all this UFO stuff, I do myself.

I saw your post some time ago asking for any info on UFO novels you could fall asleep with and thought you might be interested in having a look at mine so I dropped you a reply.

I wrote it with the Googling conspiracy theorist in mind having had an interest in the subject for many years. I thought if someone else had written it and I saw it, I would buy it, as like yourself I like this stuff. I really enjoyed 'Close Encounters of the Third Kind' for example.

If you picked it up I would be interested in your opinion, good or bad.

Noted, thanks for not barring me.

Shame on me, maybe, maybe not, what would you do in my position if you wanted to bring your book to the attention of people that may be interested in it?

Personally I would be happy to find there's something new out there for me to look at.

As a fellow amauthor I can hint you to go and present yourself on one or several sites where you can post some of your work. There must be several, though I cannot direct you to one for English is not my native language.

Simply bashing onto a site just to promote a book aint gonna cut it. You need exposure on a far more intimate level to work your way up.

You could start with the collaborative writing forum right here on ATS to show off your skills and get people to notice you, wanting to read more from your hand.

www.abovetopsecret.com...

You might wanna delve into the world of online publishing too. They often have a corner to promote your work as well.

Be prepared to get some harsh critics on your back though. Writers among each other can and should be unforgiven. (By critics I don't mean the kind you find here. They are sweet in comparison.)

Sweeeeet.

D.Wolf:
Many thanks for your response. I had no idea there is a collaborative writing forum here on this site, I'll try and find it.

I am still curios to know whether people who enjoy this site also enjoy reading novels written around the subjects you find on here, or are mainly interested in "factual" alien encounters. There was only one response from HomerinNC who said he enjoys them, there aren't that many around though as far as I can see.

As far as criticism goes, no worries, as we say here in Australia. I can take any criticism regardless of how brutal it may be, I'm no wallflower. Besides, for someone to offer criticism they would have to read it wouldn't they.

With regard on-line publishing I have done that with my novel, it's available on line as well as in paperback, most of the feedback I've got so far is pretty good, it's got a few 4 star ratings (out of 5).

I can't give you the details of my novel here unfortunately, even though it may well be of interest. However, it might be worth using this site's search facility and entering 'looking for good UFO novels page 2'.
