If you take a really, really close look at Abe Lincoln's legacy, he was actually a TERRIBLE President, one of the worst that the USA has actually ever had.
It makes me laugh when members of Congress (especially Republicans) invoke Lincoln's name when asked who their favorite President was. Of course, for Democrats it's usually JFK.
Mind you, Reagan wasn't the best President either, he was just President at a prosperous time (mostly not of his own making) and reaped the rewards.
In the current GOP climate, it's not likely that EITHER of these Presidents would be picked as the candidate, or even as a frontrunner.
