Face.com (Wildly) Guesses Your Age and Mood From Your Photo

The next creepy step in facial recognition comes from Face.com--a little bit of software that purports to not only identify you with a photo of your face, but also deduce your age, gender, and mood. We'd be more creeped out if it wasn't sort of...not accurate. The above photo of Pop Photo's Dan Bracaglia, a 24-year-old who we'd describe as "smiling sardonically," was identified as a non-smiling 33-year-old man in a "happy" mood. Try it for yourself here.

Call me paranoid, but I think I will pass on the "Try it for yourself here" offer. My underlying paranoia buzzer suggests this would be a pretty nifty way to build quite a facial database, even more, if this website gets to the viral level via retweets, likes, and any other social upping available. I can imagine that people would want to try perhaps a few different facial settings as it were thus increasing different facial characteristics of any one individual.

The part of the article where they mention being "not accurate" therefore not so creepy isn't convincing to me, whereby the true accurateness could be getting unknowingly stored in a database and what is actually being reported to the user in the pretty little pop-up box appears to be rather inaccurate so as to merely quell any creeped-out-ness that may ensue with said subject.

Cynical view I know, but hey, one can never discount one possibility over another, or one shouldn't anyway. I for one, think it's Super Creepy accurate or not!

Im not going anywhere near that site.

And the pictures? Into the underground data storage facilities they go.

TSA, FBI, DHS, CIA, and all those other alphabet agencies...Gotcha!

That is disturbing to me..... I wouldn't try it if I were PAID to. I swear, pretty soon we will have no privacy whatsoever.

mmmmmm.....biometrics......

anyone dumb enough to try it just gave away sensitive data that any gun happy agency would love to get their hands on should you ever break THEIR law.
