Imagine a direct connection between man and machine. A full integration of all the elements possesed by humanity into machinery. This may sound like artificial intelligence but it is instead avatar technology. Soon the imaginary will become reality and headbands will read your mind and incorporate your thoughts into the devices that surround you. Civilians may not see this for a few decades but the military (as usual) will have it within 5 years. Fighter pilots will not have to worry about manual controls. Mind Reading Helmets

I wonder...... Could we use this technology to create mind reading headbands or even read the minds of people around us.

Not exactly mind reading. It's talking about detecting the presence (or absence) of certain brain patterns.

As far as controlling the aircraft, it's more along the lines of developing a skill. Instead of a physical skill, it's a mental skill. You train your brain to produce specific patterns (the same why you train your body to move in a complex way). Those patterns are recognized to mean "right rudder". I don't see the advantage.

with fighter planes operating at such speeds the ability to just think a move and have it done is great, think of the firefox film where you can just think and a missile has been released without having to waste valuable seconds selecting the correct weapon for the job

Eventually this could result in some extraordinary headband or helm.

I would give it at least a decade or three even for the military to have perfected it.

Clint...fun movie but obsolete. Current systems mean that missile engagements occur at distances of many 10s of miles.

But I'm not sure having a system that relies on concentration and specific brain patterns would be best applied to weapons systems. A momentary loss of concentration ... a high stress situation ... problematic.

What would happen when these machines become self aware and become hell bent on destroying humanity
Have you just watched The Terminator
