Judging by this site lately, even before the Trayvon Martin case became such a hot topic, but especially since and where most of the "info" on him comes from such as Stormfront and the far right media...and what's allowed to fly under the radar...no racism is definitely NOT mostly a farce.

My partner is an 'ist'... He's what he calls 'people-ist'.

He hates everyone regardless of colour or culture.

My father use to say the same thing he said he hated all races equally including his own. It was in jest, kinda.

Fail troll.
You think people outside the good ole boys, are clueless? Of course it helps when the low intelligence shows through on threads that are posted with links to banned sites.

ATS: Embrace Ignorance.

What happened to conspiracy theories, aliens, religion being the opium of society, The Illuminati, Cyptids, and Government Secret Projects.

Racism has always existed, and it will as long as beings maintain their biological sentient forms. Humans are especially bad about racism, because they will find anything to differentiate themselves from one another. It's bad enough that it exists, but its worse trying to pawn it off as a small and almost nonexistent problem. Be real, it exists for a reason due to social structure, clan familiarity, and basic evolutionary development (to tell your "own" from possible dangers). Sorry, but that's truth. We can be better than our programming and seek to care about others and get along with others by treating everyone as individuals: refusing to lump everyone in one group...but it's doubtful at this point, and the future makes it almost unnecessary. A fix is coming. In the Future, Transhumanism will eliminate that. Our PostHuman children shall walk this Earth, and hopefully they'll eradicate the human scum off of the face of this planet and save the Universe a lot of grief.

I hope none of you are around in 50 years, if you are, you better be doing your damned best to augment your humanity, because I'll be looking right at you with my superior cybernetic and genetic enhancements wondering "who's cattle" and "who's unnecessary" (Kidding, take a joke)

But no, seriously, ATS...stay away from talking about race. Por Favor. It saves everyone a lot of grief.

I posted it to show you how quickly you would disassociate yourself with it. Thanks for letting everyone know that your biggest concern is to let people know you are NOT black...

That's like calling me neon purple. I'm not neon purple, so I most definitely would correct you on that before addressing any of your other claims. Also, if that poster was so quick to disassociate himself from that marking, then wouldn't it prove the basic premise of your thread wrong? That was a rhetorical question, boy. The answer is yes. Please, do everyone a favor, and stop posting. Research some conspiracy theories about the Denver Airport or or the Hollow Earth theory, anything else. I really don't think that the original intent of ATS was to cover Social Issues. I know we have a a social issues board and everything, but it seems like ATS is 70% social issue and politics these days. It's sickening. I'm tired of it, you're tired of it, and everyone else is tired of it.

The more I see it, the more I consider the viability of my plans as a Post...

So anyway, when a friend of mine who happens to be Mormon sent me an essay that he wrote, I asked him if I could re post it on my blog. He said that I could if I didn't use his name, as he happens to have an important position in the church.

If you don't mind I will honor those wishes.

Here is what he wrote:

"We Need to Wake Up

A recent Pew survey of 1,000 members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day-Saints revealed, among other things, that 49% of Mormons say they (we) experience “a lot of discrimination”, while only 31% of Mormons believe Black people experience “a lot of discrimination.” In other words, Mormons think it is harder to be Mormon than it is to be Black.

I get it. At one time I may have answered this question the same way. I would have been wrong.

You see, Mormons, especially those in the West where the religion predominates and where the people are predominantly white, race is an abstract. It exists on TV, in the news, occasionally with an individual (though we love to say we never even noticed they were Black), and mostly it is in history books. I, and I would guess most like me, were taught that Martin Luther King Jr. fought for rights, won, and now things are better. We watch the old news reels, we would never do something racist ourselves, and we assume this is just how it is. That is what I used to think. Why would I think otherwise? I knew a couple Black people, they seamed popular, I never heard anyone call them that one word. Everything was fine right?

On the other hand my local newspaper had lots to say about how horrible Mormons are. We made it too hard to drink, we meddled in politics, we were just mean. A cursory look at the Salt Lake Tribune would never leave one lacking in ammunition to disparage the LDS church. Every now and then national news or events would dig up some polygamy or related scandal or question what goes on in our mysterious temples. Living in the hot bed of Mormonism has a polarizing effect, you are in or you are out, you love them/us, or hate them/us. In the coming weeks the church will hold a semiannual conference in Salt Lake City that will be broadcast around the world. At the gates to temple square and on the sidewalks surrounding the conference center, there will be people with large signs shouting in megaphones about how horrible Mormons are. How do I know they will be there? Because they are always there. No one growing up in Salt Lake City will likely ever see someone holding a sign complaining about Black people. We would never do that.

Then I left Utah.

Having lived in Georgia, South Carolina, and now Philadelphia, I have learned a thing or two about not just Black people, but my being a Mormon “back East” as well. First lesson, racism is alive and well. Second, there is little social consequence for publicly mocking Mormonism. The two are not the same.

Driving around the south it is not uncommon to see confederate flags on bumper stickers, on clothing, and waving in front of homes and in public places. These flags, despite what those flying them may say, serve as a visual reminder of a horrible past. The past I'm talking about isn't slavery, its the 60's. This is when people waving these flags sprayed well behaved college kids with fire hoses and sicked police dogs on peaceful protesters. This flag flew over a battle in Mississippi when a qualified Black man tried to enroll in college. The message that flag intended then, is not forgotten by Black people today, yet many people still fly it with pride.

My father never got sprayed with a hose by the Police for being Mormon.

But of course, this was in my history book and MLK won that fight, right? The legacy of that last generation carries over to now. National statistics show that this history of direct and legal oppression, which again lasted into my parent's life time, means that being Black means you will more likely be poor, get arrested, go to a cash strapped under performing school, find it harder to get a job even when you are qualified, have a broken family, be judged negatively by your appearance, and die younger than the national average. There are absolutely no statistics showing any of these challenges in the lives of Mormons. Some individuals have made great strides, even becoming president, but expecting every Black person to be Oprah or Obama is just like expecting every Mormon to be Mitt Romney or John Huntsman. Funny enough, the statistics show the average Mormon is more likely to be Mitt Romney than a Black person is to be Oprah.

But remember I said racism's existence was only my first lesson. I began my second when I wore a name tag and pedaled a bike around an American city. I was called hurtful names daily and pelted with debris from passing cars almost as regularly. Being struck by half eaten muffins and bagels was sort of amusing, being hit by beer bottles, not so much. In my professional life I have been the sole sober person at a corporate event when my superiors began making jokes about the number of wives I must have or my magic underwear. I have had perfect strangers vocally question my sanity immediately upon our introduction and on numerous occasions when visiting other denominations heard my own condemned as evil over the pulpit. A play mocking Mormonism swept the Tony's, and every other day I see a news report reminding me that most Americans really don't want to vote for a Mormon. Make no mistake, mocking Mormons is publicly acceptable.

Finally, again, these two lessons are not the same. It is human nature to view one's own struggle as paramount, but not all mountains are on the same scale. Let us not confuse Pikes Peak as comparable to Kilimanjaro. They simply aren't the same. I fear the protection of the Wasatch front has left Mormon's ignorant of the reality that lies beyond. This is in no way a problem specific to Latter Day Saints, it's an American problem. The national nature of the problems with race is why I'm writing this now. I have great pride in my faith, my Utah roots, and in my nation. I love them all and want all to be better. As a Mormon I am forced into the work of bettering the image of my faith in the public's mind. I live it every day. But I am not just Mormon, I'm also white, and to ignore the tangible unearned obstacles faced by those in my country who may not look exactly like me, would set me up as an obstruction to the discovery of a solution.

If anything, the persecution Mormons do face, which is very real, should wake us up to how horrible the effects of racism could be, and in fact, are."

I find it absolutely hilarious how you people get on your high horses and call someone "racist" and think you are soooo much better than them - like you have just pulled the wools from everyone else's eyes and exposed this person for being a raaacccciiiiissstt.

Most of us are not racist. We are more... "culturalist".

We don't like thugs who wear pants down to their ankles revealing their underwear for everyone to see, speak in gibberish, attempt to legitimize a corruption of a language, replace their teeth with tinfoil/diamonds/gold, have huge obnoxious tires and blast loud vulgar music for all to hear. Those who have 6 kids by 6 different daddy's. Those who don't know who the father of their children are. We don't like the culture of walking around harassing people because someone looked at them funny. We don't like the culture of highly disproportionate crime rates, violence, rape, and drug use. We don't like the general disrespect and selfishness the culture has. We don't like the lack of self-improvement or the attitude of entitlement. The culture of victimization and persecution from white people. We don't like the culture of placing blame on the white man. We don't like the culture of staying on welfare while you go out and make tons of money selling drugs.

This culture exists. PC has allowed for a large group of people to adopt the above culture and be protected behind a curtain of politically correct sheep who defend any criticism or discrimination of the above by labeling it "racist" by inherently assuming that the above culture is the culture of the inner city black person.

I have been saying forever that white is the new minority.

I don't classify myself as racist. I have several "minority"(non white) friends, and I also have some very racist friends.

Race is an issue that will never go away, it is a team sport and somebody's team has to be better.

It all comes down to RESPECT. Something that we as a people (in general) have lost. Some have it. Many people, mainly youth today, do not.

As long as there is a little ethnicity box to check on any paperwork, there will be race differentials.

Couth
Refined
Compassionate
Three words that a racist of any color or nationality will never understand. There's trash in every culture. Trash is a fad plain and simple and people just love it. They just can't get enough of it. What has happened to this world? I'll bet that a black racist who is dying from a heart attack won't say no don't save me to a white doctor. I'll bet that a white racist won't say I don't want to work for this black man even though he offered me twenty bucks an hour. It's like anything else. People scream and kick thier feet and quote only what they hear and never REALLY know the truth. People the only truth lies within you. Who you really are. Stop being followers and start being leaders.

Denying that racism isn't a major problem in the United States in 2012 doesn't make it go away.

Here I thought that this website's motto was to 'Deny Ignorance' not 'Ignorantly Deny'.

That was a great rant OP, and very well put!

And herein lies the tragedy of the liberal PC dupes. - It isn't really about 'race' at all, as the OP has pointed out, it is though, all about CULTURE and cultural values.

Those pulling the strings have encouraged these debased cultural values and 'educated' generations of dupes to think that tolerating this crap is somehow a mark of enlightenment, a badge of merit - it isn't, it is just gross stupidity!

They are using this as a battering ram to break down the real obstacle to their goals - the traditional status quo values of western culture which have proved so resistant to marxism/communism/progressivism.

When they have finally collapsed the western world - they are not going to have any use for crap like this - and they certainly aren't going to have any use for the legions of idiots that were insane enough to tolerate it!

Respect that word is thrown around a lot these days. Respect is earned, not just given. If you dress & act a certain way, you will be lumped into a catagory. Period the end. We all went to school. we all dealt with the little groups or "clicks" Jocks, Nerds, Brainheads, etc etc etc.

Dress like a thug, act like a thug, your gonna end up being treated like a thug. Look at the new t-shirt that now out & about in Florida. Is that gonna gain any respect from people? NO. Is it gonna inflame white and hispanic folks.YES.

Media frenzy to stoke the fires of racism. Seperatism is more the word .

Racism is a farce, however it is very real and is the most powerful tool that TPTB have to control the masses. Just keep throwing out propaganda here and there and they can get everyone so worked up into a frenzy that no one will ever stop to notice the rights we are losing.

So yes, racism is a farce for the most part for individuals but is alive, well, and well managed by TPTB.
