I don't understand hate crime laws

The Japanese are extremely racist towards white and black men. We are considered inferior to them.Not so much as a race but because of our culture upbringing etc.

Aside from when it gets the law involved, I truthfully don't care much about racism at all. Every group on the planet, of whatever kind, views itself as being better than everyone else. It seems to be an element of human nature.

I don't like hate crime law because it tries to legally enshrine something which is inherently subjective and irrational.
