Interesting tidbit i just picked up off reuters about Rummy apparently deciding some DoD contractors were worthy of being liquidated from his portfolio.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld sold stakes this summer in at least five companies after they were identified as doing business with the Pentagon, according to his latest financial disclosure form, made available on Wednesday.

Sold were all his shares in Millennium Chemicals Inc., St Paul Companies Inc., Sonoco Products Co., VF Corp. and Zebra Technologies Corp., according to an aide's handwritten note on the disclosure report.

The note, dated June 28, said the companies had been "identified as DoD defense contractors." The Pentagon did not immediately respond to a query about the threshold for such identification, nor about the reasoning behind the sale.

I'm not sure exacttly what to make of this. Was he selliong them becasue he didn't wan them to be percieved as benefitting him personally while rebuilding Iraq or Afghanistan? Or because he didn't want anyone to think he was benefitting from the war?

Who knows why he does some of the things he does
The thing here is that he was not "Officially" asked to sell them. He has some intresting stocks, on a political level.

Didn't Martha Stewart go to jail for the same thing? For someone that knows nothing about defence and stock options, I will have to voice my opinion anyway. Rumsfield is an Idiot. Although I am just stating the obvious, stuff like this needs to be said.

For selling her stocks? I don't think so. i haven't follewed her in the news, but i would think that she probably had some insider information that very few knew and that's why she sold??

About Rumsfeld, I would give him the benifit of a doubt, perhaps he didn't want to benefit from those anymore, who knows. Now if in 4-6 months all those companies go bankrupt, or they are attacked, then you have something to talk about, and investigate.

.
Maybe its the fact that he is selling stocks in general and not Defense stocks in particular that might be noted.
