The Democratic Party isnt inciting church arson just yet. But, despite its occasional pious pretenses, the Democrats see Christian America as enemy terrain. Here, at least, the party of Howard Dean and Dennis Kucinich is willing to overcome its ingrained pacifism and engage in the rhetorical equivalent of war.

The latest issue of The New Yorker contains a 12,000-word profile piece on Al Gore, in which the former vice president disgorges his views on a variety of subjects.

Only a hopelessly partisan media would consider the reflections of a man who once defined e pluribus unum as out of one, many worthy of a dogs obituary, let alone 12,000 words.

In the course of inflicting his wisdom on readers, Gore had this to say about the faith of George W. Bush: Its a particular kind of religiosity. Its the American version of the same fundamentalist impulse that we see in Saudi Arabia, in Kashmir, in religions around the world: Hindu, Jewish, Christian and Muslim.

Man I can't stand Mr.Robot err Al Gore. He and the rest of his relgion hating group, especially Janet Reno who compared those of religious faith to cult followers. Why even attack someone based on their faith? Bush has every right to praise and love God.

Yes, but the concern of many is that George is acting in "Gods interest". Being a born again christian he believes Jesus is coming home anytime soon and he wants everything just peachy. The separation of Church and State doesn't mean crap if Bush is having two way conversations with God.

"religiosity" ?! what the hell is that?! ok, so here's why liberals as left as Gore hate religion. they realize the only way to secularize america (which is their goal) is to remove and irradicate the dominant religion of america (christianity). so some will stop at nothing to bash all religion, but especially christianity.

Nerdling- I did not say it was ok for him to act that God is commanding him to do these things. He can certainly pray in public, thank God, bless God etc. However even I would draw a line if he makes it seem that he is on a mission from God.

But clearly what Gore and other Democrats are saying is completly ludricris.

Yet your headline says it is. Isn't this deliberately misleading? How is this not against the rules?

And your source, Don Feder? That's real journalism, right there. Totally non-partisan.

Thanks for this totally worthless post. We need to protect our "Chruch"es from Democratic arsonists wherever possible.

This is the author of that opinion piece, describing himself:

Im to the right of Sharon on Zionism, to the right of Pat Buchanan on immigration and Americanism, to the right of Mother Angelica on abortion, to the right of Chuck Heston on Second-Amendment rights, and generally make the legendary Atilla look like a limousine liberal.

If any of this appeals to you, read on. If not, look elsewhere.

I'll look elsewhere, thanks!

You can't smear what's already been caked on by years of intolerance, hatred, and subjugation. Morally righteous evil is still evil, regardless of the opinion of the church leaders who proclaim God's will.

People confuse their invisible man in the sky with their own hatred and their own insecurity and their own fear, and until they learn to stop, religion will continue to die slowly, until it's nothing more than a fairy tale we tell children before they sleep at night.

Actually, they are cult followers. Many people that follow any religion fail to realize what the definition of a "cult" is:

"a system of religious beliefs and rituals, or adherents of an exclusive system of religious beliefs and practices"
www.hyperdictionary.com...

Essentially, if what you are saying about Janet Reno is correct then she is 100% spot on in here assumption. I'm not saying that all cults are bad. All religions are cults, but there is a difference between "occult" and "cult", which many people also fail to realize.

Yesterday it was Teresa and "scumbags", today Al is blaspheming. Once again, READ THE QUOTE IN CONTEXT FROM THE SOURCE, not the biased and misleading redux. I am beginning to think that the New Yorker is going to have to publish a cheatsheet written on a 3rd grade reading level so the righties can understand the articles.

www.newyorker.com...

Al Gore was not smearing Christians. He specifically was talking about how he has disdain for George Bush's public bible beating and other public bible beaters like him. Apparently, bible beating is done in private in the Gore home. The rest of his quote makes a metaphor for how George Bush and fundamentalists like him have difficulty understanding other religions, so much so that it works to their detriment because they become blind to non-fundamentalist solutions.

Society is crumbling because of the fact of growing tolerance. Do you ever wonder why "the invisible man in the sky" brought the flood in Noah's day? Do you ever wonder why " the invisible man in the sky" will destroy the world with fire? And this event is yet to come. Scorn, ridicule and laugh at me if you want. The same happened to Noah as he was constructing a gigantic, water-tight vessel on land, far from any body of water large enough to hold it. And you should know the rest of the story.

So, society is falling apart because people AREN'T hating each other?

If you believe that a flood covered every square inch of land on the planet in a day, and that every animal, great and small in the world entire, including insects, were loaded in a big wooded boat, built by a single man.

You go ahead.

If you believe that God the son and God the father are coming back to earth on a chariot of fire to vanquish your enemies and all those who don't agree with you and to damn them to eternal life in a lake of fire, where their teeth will gnash and they will rub gravel through their hair.

Again. You go right ahead.

You can spend your time bowing and praying to an absentee father figure, rosaries draped around a barbwire covered cross, dripping with the blood of his servents. Begging for forgiveness for sins not your own and for failing to live up to a set antiquated morals straight out of the 7th century.

Me? I'll spend my time doing something more productive. Like watching Wally Gator and eating Capn' Crunch.

Hey man, you don't like Sponge Bob, Courage, The Cowardly Dog and Ed, Edd, and Eddie?
Capn' Crunch you say? Peanut butter?
I'll stick with Frosted Flakes.
