Found this on the bbc website.... thought it quite an amusing article

Male fruit flies that have been rejected by females drink significantly more alcohol than those that have mated freely, scientists say.

www.bbc.co.uk...

so the poor male flies that have been rejected obviously do feel some sort dejection/rejection if they are turning to the bottle

I wonder if there is a chemical reason for it. Maybe alcohol enhances the male fruit fly pheromones, therefore making it more acceptable to the female the next time around.

Are we still talking bout the flies or humans lol. In some instances yes in others it seems to be a catalyst for successful mating in humans. Also i find some peoples testosterone seems to rise with alcohol they get beer muscles all of the sudden and get aggressive. lol

In an article in Science, researchers suggest that alcohol stimulates the flies' brains as a "reward" in a similar way to sexual conquest. The work points to a brain chemical called neuropeptide F, which seems to be regulated by the flies' behaviour. Human brains have a similar chemical, which may react in a similar way. The connection between alcohol and this chemical, which in humans is known as neuropeptide Y, has already been noted in studies involving hard-drinking mice.
