I think you raise a good point about the pharmaceuticals. When abused, they are just as dangerous and are currently extremely available to young
people. They are sold for cheap, 4 or 5 dollars a pill, which most young kids can afford. I have a girlfriend who got her first DUI after she ran
into a house on Somas and alcohol.
There is no cure for addiction, but there are measures that can be taken to help an addict see the reality of their behaviors. In Florida they have
the Marchman Act, where addicts can be taken to rehab against their will if their family sees that their substance abuse is a danger to
themselves/others. I think that would be the best course of action for her, at least until she is sentenced for her crimes.
The thought that this person is unchecked out in the streets is worrisome.
