Im uncertain this is the correct forum for this post, but im not sure where to put it. This has been something ive pondered for a while now. When i go and look at some of the ats archives, so many of the posters are unrecognisable to me, and i dont see many current posts from most of them. Why do you think people leave ATS? obviously some of them must have died (of boredom probably with some of the daft things that are posted on her lol). But why do people go?, because conspiracy theories, paranormal studies etc are, in my mind, COMPELLING stuff. So why do people leave? maybe they become dishearted with the continuous search for truth. What do you think? surely then cant have gone over to the dark side, the OTHER forum

i used to linger around some personal development forums for a while and i noticed that too.
most of them just found something better to do with their time i suppose, i mean yeah its interesting here, but do you really want to do this for the rest of your life? and maybe you do idk, but most people get bored and try to find something else.

Nah, im not convinced, Sorry to use the conspiricy worlds most overused cliche

Not sure my answer works for everyone, but I just recently stopped replying in another forum because most of the people that was on that forum when I joined eventually stopped posting and new folks replaced them. In my case, I became "internet friends" with those people and once they slowly vanished, so did I. Also, I think one's "life situation" has a lot to do with it. In my case, I live alone and it is easy to spend lots of time on a forum, but if I had others living with me it would be difficult to devote myself to all this reading and provoked thought. When my sons are here I am not on the computer. Rather simple, but logical....I think.

This site's atmosphere was different before it changed. After the change there was a crusade of new members and the site was over run. I think people of the past grew old of this and left.

The answer is in front of us, take a look at the threads. An open policy became a freeway for garbage lately. I suffer just reading the titles. Fake UFO youtube videos, titles ending with a question mark (found 5 in current topics right now), Obama this, Obama that; doom and gloom.

I believe you are right. I often hear older members say that the quality of threads was much better a few years ago, ive only been a member since june 2010 and ive seen a difference since then. Its a shame. And ive noticed a lot of new posters expressing opinions on super large threads that obviously havnt read all the way through. And yes, ok, maybe ploughing through a huge thread is not everyones cup of tea, in which case maybe they shouldnt post, because it just seems to rile the older members up, theres not a straight answer to that one though, its lose/lose,we want them to read and learn.

Black-bag jobs. Don't you doubt it. Jus' kidding...except for one former member that I truly worry about.

He was high on the list of ATS contributors and stuck to down-to-earth malfeasance in the military industrial complex and corporate worlds. He was spot on and HAD to be a real pain in the ass and thusly in some danger.

Then...POOF...he was gone. He was one Diggety-Dog when it came to sticking it to tha' man, I must say. Mebbe his wife needed more time or sumpin'...maybe.

Many have been banned for reasons that are understandable...others not so much. And sometimes...they may disappear for their own sanity.

Some did get lives, real ones
. Many imho lurk. They can't shake the ATS habit but they are weary of the trolls and silly answers and how threads, good ones get derailed. It gets old. The reason I think they lurk is cause I occasionally stumble across a post made by one with an early date, lots of flags and stars on the old avatar, and then poof they are gone again.

Perhaps they are amused to see history repeating over and over etc. They are legends, passing by on the odd post here and there.

Things cycle, ATS is alive, it changes as we do and as our world does.

I do miss those who were on when I first joined.

Mostly sacrificed at our Annual ATS Best Members Awards Ceremony.

It's an invite only thing, you kinda need to not have a soul for it to work...

Or at least not have one when you leave..

No in all honesty most members end up finding new internet havens or just get tired of discussing things on the internet in general. I'd gather it's mostly because their RL changes in a way that doesn't allow them the time to sit on ATS for very long.

Many reasons for it, and i don't agree wholeheartedly that the posts are more garbage now, there was always pathetic threads here, just not so many of them.

The predictions and prophecies forum has added to that greatly IMO.

Some just take a break, which is not a bad thing. I recently took a break of just over a year for various reasons, it's kind of dissapointing to come back and see nothings changed though, endless bickering within a few sentences of a thread.

I get that every day with my kids.
So i can see why some either go for good or get disolutioned with the place.

If you weed out the good from the crap though, it still has it's moments. I think my biggest gripe is that for a site that is home to subjects that should be attracting intelligent discussion, instead there is probably the biggest concentration of ill mannered, disrespectful people on the net. Thankfully not all are included in that, otherwise my year off would have been greatly extended.

The truth is,they have found the answer to what originally brought them to this site.
That is when the fire inside dies down.
Kinda sorta happened to me,but being a "noob" I still will find that little nugget of gold on here that keeps me intrigued.
Seriously doubt they went to the "other " site cause it's pure crap.

...All the people we used to know
They're an illusion to me now
Some are mathematicians
Some are carpenter's wives
Don't know how it all got started
I don't what they're doing with their lives ....

Bob Dylan "Tangled up in Blue" from Blood on the Tracks 1975

A few of us old timers are still around.
Like Bob said, I don't know where most went, and everyone has their own reasons for staying or going.

I don't post as much as I used to and I don't start many threads these days. Sometimes I'm about to start a thread and see that someone has already started a thread on whatever the subject - even if the OP is only a youtube vid and a "What do you think?". I guess being an old timer I'm at loathe to intentionally start a dupe thread.

Part of me wishes they'd never allowed youtube vids or would get more strict about the posting of them. I really want to know what *you* think and what your thoughts about the vid were and why you felt it was important enough to post. Anyone can link a vid and leave a "what do you think?"

As far as replying, sometimes I do. Sometimes I just read and think, "Why bother?". Basically for the reasons you and others have cited. The topic doesn't have to be "way out there" either. Discussions of politics and/or religion too often seem to degenerate in to the ritual beating of the deceased equine with hoots and howls as accompaniment.

Anyway, I tend to be a little "streaky" with it ATS. I'll post for awhile - then go quite for awhile. But, I'm still on the road.

Once a member accumulates enough stars and ATS points, they are flagged for state induction and get a visit from our agents. Fingerprints are removed, identifies manufactured, and they undergo training in Langley.

After the 6 month program, they are ready for the ZR4 Exchange Program, where they board an EBE craft and travel to Pleides (or as we call it ZR4 (Zeti-Reticul 4) along with 11 other program members and a cargo of exchange goods (mostly strawberries). Meanwhile, a dozen EBEs come here for the program, to the Papoose Lake facility in the Nevada desert (or S4).

Interesting side note: They keep trying to grow strawberries on Pledes, but every time, they harden and enlarge, and are more like a melon, not unlike a watermellon, but more tart and less watery.

But, I digress... After the two-year exchange program, they are either inducted into the secretive Space Command or serve in various Intelligence agencies, never again to speak to any former acquaintances or family.

OR

They just move on, go to different forums, change jobs, locations, get wives, girlfriends, husbands, become love slaves, etc. You be the judge.
