For those living in a hole, Game Change is the new movie, airing on HBO Saturday night (tomorrow) Mar 10. It's getting rave reviews as a realistic view of how Palin was picked to 'change the game' in Washington. From the clips I've seen, it's a sympathetic look (sympathetic compared to the Palin-bashing fest we usually see and I've engaged in all too many times) at the person Palin was in 2008 and the tremendous amount of change she had to deal with, being plucked out of the middle of nowhere and placed on the world's largest stage.

What an amazing thing to cope with!

Unfortunately, I won't be able to see this movie as we don't have HBO, but I will see it eventually. Just seeing the clips, I feel like I've gotten a glimpse of her experience from her perspective, and it gives me a lot sympathy for her position and what she was thrust into.( Even though she denies its accuracy, I have a feeling it's more accurate than she is willing to admit.)

I'm not saying my political view of Sarah Palin has changed, but my personal view of her has. Just from that glimpse. I still don't think she's very intelligent, but she is savvy and she has "IT". I disagree with her world view about 100% and I wouldn't vote for her for class clown, but I do think she handled what she took on with strength and fortitude rarely seen in anyone, let alone a woman. I know that sounds sexist and it is. A particular woman's strength generally is something that is known within her family or close circle and doesn't get paraded around much. So, when a strong woman like Sarah Palin shows that strength, by taking on this enormous task and nearly succeeding, I think it's something to be honored and respected. She also changed the political landscape to a certain degree. Sarah Palin had an impact on Washington. That's quite a task these days.

The clips I've seen have been well-done political drama that had me on the edge of my seat. I can't wait to see the movie. If you see it, I'd love to hear what you think.

It matters because it is in direct contrast to her character, and her outspoken values she claims to have. A hypocrite is a hypocrite is a hypocrite.

Do as I say not as I do mentality has no place in politics.

This is a documentary-like, behind-the-scenes movie of what happened during the 2008 election. I'm absolutely CERTAIN there will be hypocrisy revealed.

If you want to make a movie about Palins' teen years, feel free. But THIS thread is about the new movie that is going to be on TELEVISION tomorrow. (This thread is in the TELEVISION forum, not a political forum) So what you think should be in the movie is irrelevant.

She looks exactly like her! Ed harris looks a lot like McCain as well. I really want to see this movie....I don't have HBO but i think it may be worth getting for a month to watch this.

Julianne Moore said she listened to Palin's speeches over and over while driving or exercising. Also watched every video she could get her hands on. She is amazing in the movie.

I remember when all this was happening, i felt bad for Palin. I thought she was being trashed for no good reason and I often defended her. looking back...some of the criticism was definitely justified...but much of it wasn't...and was completely unfair...especially when it came to attacks on her family.

Very curious as to how she is going to be portrayed in the movie. They supposedly go into detail on how and why she was chosen for VP.....can't wait to see that.

Oh shoot, you beat me to it! I would have love to have seen Tina Fey in this movie, but it would change the whole tone, wouldn't it?

Seriously, I have to admit they did a fantastic job of making Juliane Moore look like Palin. She's a good actress too, so I'm sure she'll do a great job. I just hate that they may be making her look like a heroine here, when we all know she's not.

No, I don't think she will look like a heroine. She looks human. To me, it seems very reality-based, or as much as it can be and still be a good movie. It's very much a human story. I put the trailer in the first post. It's another clip I hadn't seen.

I can't imagine a Democrat hating the movie. Either way, you can't talk about "Game Change" without feeling the bottoms of your shoes slightly thump against a soap box.

Thanks for reminding me that this premieres tomorrow night! When I first heard of this film, I was not too interested. However, since Palin has been in such an uproar over this film, it must be damn accurate; thus I can't wait to see it.

I'll be watching it.

I'm more excited about seeing the behind the scenes work of the campaign more than I am interested in Palin though.

I'm not sure I would say she handled being a VP candidate well...but she did know how to turn it into personal gain and profit.

Yeah, I don't think she did a good job of being a VP candidate either. What I think she handled well was the vast changes in her life from being this obscure governor nobody's ever heard of to America's Sweetheart in a matter of days.

She was so unprepared. Most people have at least months ahead of time to prepare... you know, read a paper or something. I think, as a governor, she should have been reading the paper already, but she didn't have the time to learn the names of them, much less read a few. They had to brief her before every speech, every interview... There was always the fear that she'd say something stupid, which proved to be valid. But I can't imagine living under that kind of stress. Especially with the constant media attention and criticisms.

Movie is very good so far.

I even went so far as to feel bad for Palin a couple of times when they showed her family in distress over the awful things the news and random people were saying about them. It must have been pretty awful to have been a tight, normal family unit one day, and the next your entire family is being scrutinized under a microscope. I can't imaging having to go through that.

Man o man though. When she didn't know that England is governed by a prime minister and not the queen I nearly turned completely white. Could all of you imagine if a woman this completely clueless got anywhere near the White House? She's always been a delightful woman and she's definitely someone to admire for her being a strong career woman and also a mom of five children, but she knows next to nothing about the planet we live on. I don't know how accurate this film is concerning her knowledge of global politics and history, but the scene where the advisors had to come in to coach her about where Germany is and how they were the main antagonist for both World Wars is so alarming that you can't even laugh. You have to think to yourself "Oh my god! This woman could have been running the show if McCain would have been elected and suddenly died or became ill!".

The movie is frightening so far indeed. Good, but frightening. @ the height of her popularity during the race, it was basically 5 minutes to midnight. This country would have gone down faster than a lead balloon

Made for HBO movie – Game Changer I watched it last night. Not because I am a Sarah Palin or McCain fan – I am decidedly not. I wanted to see how it was spun.

Bottom line up front – it was a political hit piece on Palin IMO. I don’t even like Palin and I felt sorry for the way she was portrayed.

First of all the casting was good the actors and actresses chosen genuinely favored those they portrayed.
What I found interesting about the movie was the way they portrayed the individuals and even the groups involved.

McCain was portrayed as fairly vulgar but genuinely concerned with running a campaign free from negativity and putting the country first.

Sarah Palin was portrayed as not only stupid but mentally unstable – I felt sorry for her. The staffers - treated her like # and didn't let her just be herself. To be fair, when they did let her...they indicated that it was a success.

Neither of these characters really interested me though…

The part I found most interesting – the individuals involved in running the campaigns (the Kingmakers if you will) were portrayed as ethical, concerned individuals whose primary concern rather than winning the campaign was the welfare of the nation. Almost non-partisan is the way they were portreyed.

I find this hard to believe – the people behind campaigns are by necessity at best manipulators of facts and people both. People who buy and sell and trade votes and influence in hopes they get a political appointee position.

In one scene at the end Palin’s press secretary even admits she couldn’t even bring herself to vote because she was so convinced that Palin was unqualified for the office… Stupid.

What was the reason behind this portrayal of the pollsters, media managers, and campaign staff as the true heroes?

Curious who else saw it and what your reaction was…

Sure the Obamites can all pile in with how much they agree with Plain hate but that’s not my question.

My question is why they portrayed the Kingmakers the way they did – what’s the agenda there?

She had to be instructed about why there was a North and South Korea, about the detailed implications of the First and Second World Wars and a host of other things. Translation: she's a moron.

Just watched it. Thought it was okay all around. Well acted, felt bad for Palin at a few moments, but overall I'd say it played her as real as possible. A flawed, inexperience person who got caught up in a totally new thing for her. I did come away having a little more respect for McCain, though even as a liberal I never disliked him.

As for them making the staff look like "true heroes," I don't think that's the case at all. They just made them look like decent people. They wanted what's best for the nation in the same way that everyone wants what's best for the nation, but they schemed all the way through. They didn't go with "Country First" VP candidates, they went with the candidate who could win. They didn't vet her thoroughly because they wanted to push her through. They didn't pull Palin when it was obvious she was detrimental, they got her to memorize lines and play a part.

There's parts where Steve Schmidt (Woody Harrelson) tells Palin not to lie, because lying is going to make the campaign look bad in the press. He says they need to tone down the rhetoric. Not just because it's wrong for people to shout "terrorist" and "muslim" when Obama's name gets mentioned, but again because the press is going to be critical of it. They were scheming, but it wasn't a hand-wringing, mustache twirling kind of scheming.

Nicolle Wallace saying she didn't vote seemed a little over-the-top to me too, but Wallace claims it's true. In fact, both her and Steve Schmidt said the movie was pretty accurate.
