PA Voter ID Bill passes Senate, will become 13th State! Not good for Obama

HARRISBURG - Republican state senators put Pennsylvania on the path Wednesday to becoming the 16th state to require voters to show certain photo identification before their ballots are counted. Each Democrat voted against the bill, while three Republicans opposed it. It passed in the Senate 26-23.

WHAT’S NEXT? Republicans say that county election officials should have time to give the concept a test run during the April 24 primary elections — asking people for ID, but not requiring it — and it would become effective for the Nov. 6 general election.

Poor Obama can kiss Pennsylvania (and 12 other states) good bye come this election. The SEIU and ASCFME Unions won't be able to get all the dead people to vote this time.

Mark my words. You will see PA Republican from here on out. The rest of the State has had enough of the continued voting fraud and intimidation tactics from the Philly crowd. Say good bye to your power...

Hopefully more states will follow suit quickly so we-the USA citizens-can have an Honest election (or as close to one as of yet).

The thing about this is that it strikes me as more of a negative than positive. You can still easily manipulate electronic ballot quite easily and plus, now they require you use ID so they know that you voted. After studying law I learned that it is an act of treason to vote for a President because we are represented by the state that we live in and are born in and the state is seen as our "country" research the 14th Amendment and see how it changes everything

So if a police officer asks for your id you can say its racist against illegal immigrants who deserve the same (but actually better) treatment than everyone else? Cool, i hope paying taxes is also racist.

I really wonder when people will realize that making ID necessary to vote is a good thing. People claim racism, or a plan to not let minorities vote. Who in the world believes that minorities do not have photo ID? Why is it racist to want to help fight against dead people voting, but it is not racist to think that minorities are so bad off they dont even have ID (which is false).

People claim that they dont have money as evidenced by welfare. Wait, isnt it necessary to have photo ID to get that welfare? So you mean to tell me that its not racist to require photo ID for welfare, but it is to vote? This is political pandering and is ridiculous. Let us worry about all the dead people voting in the elections.

As a freedom loving, Constitution-knowing, Ron Paul admiring, Texas libertarian...I wouldn't be unduly bothered by a government-issued voter ID card that costs nothing for voters. We need an ID system, and I'm so fed up with every, single thing being called "racist", that we should just be done with it.

I can tell you that there aren't too many people without ID's now-a-days.

AFter the election.. there will be a lot less. They have 6 days after the election to get a valid ID and their vote will be counter.

Doesn't get much fairer than that.

I usually stay away from these threads but I have a question, or maybe even an idea. Why don't they just iisue voters registration cards with you picture id on it? Here in Michigan it all goes throught the secratary of states office and I don't think it would be to difficult of a thing to do.

Plus Republicans have their boys manning the voting machines too...

In Michigan you can get an ID card that looks just like a DL if you are a minor or not a driver but need ID.

I don't see a problem with this rule. Too much opportunity to make mischief any other way.

Earlier this month former Justice Department lawyer and Republican activist J. Christian Adams testified to the commission that senior officials in the department are not applying voting rights laws in a race-neutral way, by refusing to press charges against African Americans on these issues.

Of Adams' charges that DOJ is discriminatory in prosecution, Thernstrom said, "We certainly have no direct evidence that anybody in the Justice Department said 'We're not going to prosecute this case because we have racial double standards: We protect blacks, we don't protect whites.'

"I think the evidence is extremely weak," Thernstrom told anchor Bob Schieffer. "If the Justice Department chooses - and I would be delighted if it did so - to send to us, for instance, somebody who is at that alleged brown bag meeting in which [Deputy Assistant Attorney General] Julie Fernandez said, 'We don't prosecute cases [against] blacks …' fine. I'm an evidence girl, really. I want evidence."

The only real problem I see with the rule is that you have to spend money to get an ID therefore you have to pay to vote. In my opinion every legal voter should be able to have a picture ID issued for free using tax dollars to cover the cost. Just an idea.

And that is such a great idea, that's how it works!!!!

To address any suggestion that a photo ID requirement amounts to an unconstitutional "poll tax," the bill would require the Department of Transportation to issue an identification card at no cost to anyone who applies and swears that he or she has no other proof of identification allowed under the law for voting purposes.

I live in Tennessee and we offer free voter ID cards. Most people don't bother to read that part of the story though, they just say "poll tax" and move on.

Thank you, I'm a little lupey today. See, If they make that a nationwide rule then there is no problem I think. It could help lessen voter fraud at least.

Hey, I'm that way most days!!! I think it should be a nation wide law. There are so many things that you have to have ID for, but not to vote?? Makes no since. Heck here in TN we even have to show a photo ID to purchase Sudafed.
