I would have never thought that stellar winds could reach those kinds of speeds. We learn something new everyday.

NASA astronomers have clocked the fastest wind ever discovered blowing off the stellar-mass black hole, IGR J17091-3624.

The wind was discovered by NASA Astronomers using NASA's Chandra X-ray Observatory (Chandra). Chandra has been orbiting the Earth since it was deployed by the Space Shuttle Columbia on July 23, 1999. The Observatory is designed to observe X-rays from high energy regions of the universe.

This artist's impression shows a binary system containing a stellar-mass black hole called IGR J17091-3624, or IGR J17091 for short. The strong gravity of the black hole, on the left, is pulling gas away from a companion star on the right. This gas forms a disk of hot gas around the black hole, and the wind is driven off this disk.

I hope we never get hit by one of those wind guts

Tornadoes and Hurricanes are bad enough

So there is wind in the vacuum of space, wow

So the fluttering US flag on that Apollo mission was'nt fake then

No, there is wind in the gas envelope surrounding a black hole. I'm not sure that it could technically be called an "atmosphere" since the BH stole it off a nearby star, but it is dense enough to have turbulent flow. Maybe you can't breath it, but you can't call it vacuum either.

No, the movement was caused by the astronaut's hand on the goddamn flagpole.
Sheesh, don't get me started. Off-topic anyway...
