I found this to be quite interesting..

how many of you knew this?

Most of us would find this disturbing in our day and age..

but back in the time this was something people had to deal with every day...

I wonder if this poster would have helped people feel different about things..

check it out...

keep calm and carry on my friends!

Very interesting, "Keep Calm and Carry On"

I finally watched Orwell's 1984, and this slogan would have fit perfectly into the totalitarian world they built. Honest yet sinister, nice find.

Thank you for sharing that bit of history!

Funny that 2.5 million of the posters were printed and never distributed. With a calming message, it is also odd that they would have chose red/burnt orange as the poster color.

"I wonder if this poster would have helped people feel different about things.."

I believe it definitely would have, a clear and simple message from ones leaders is comforting to most. Think of the Milgram experiment. A man of authority issuing an order, to deliver a lethal dose of electricity to a stranger. The majority of people back then may even had a hard time knowing what to do in a catastrophic event and posters like this would have been needed!

So the very same people who orchestrated the mass slaughtering of millions were making posters saying
"KEEP CALM AND CARRY ON", I'm getting that warm fuzzy feeling deep down, feels good...... no wait, its a stroke.

I can barely go a day without seeing this image, its ubiquitous at the moment on mugs, t-shirt everything.
I knew it was a war time poster but never knew that it wasn't released, interesting

Is more appropriate for the way I feel at the moment

Quite interesting! Not something I had heard about before, and didn't even think about such posters. Very British, isn't it? Nice find.

The message wasn't meant to be 'calming', the red and orange are meant to evoke the 'self' (add preservation if you like)
