NASA have just uploaded a new video showing the ISS pass through the Aurora Borealis as it orbits the planet.

Those guys have the beast seat in the house I reckon.

Here's the embed but I recommend that you watch it on full screen and HD on youtube.

Enjoy.

Look at 2:15 you can see 3 objects appear in the background going from left to right.

Could be a really simple explanation but just wanted to point that out since it caught my eye.

Noob question time (great vid btw!). You say it "passes through the aurora". Is there any danger to instruments and sensor type things when it does this? Maybe danger is a strong word, does the ISS experience any change in various readings such as temperature or "charge"? I'm sure you know what I mean even if I'm not using the right words. TIA

Living in Yellowknife, Canada, I already get the "Greatest Show on Earth" every clear winter night! But seeing this from the space station was incredible!

The Auroras themselves are harmless I believe but a large enough geomagnetic storm, which often causes them can be hazardous to astronauts in space.

They do have reasonable shielding on board the ISS though.

Nice catch, I didn't see them at all.

Hard to say what they are, satellites, space junk, meteors, light ships from ashtar command...
