Researchers digging through mud in northeast India have discovered a new family of legless amphibians in a rare scientific breakthrough detailed in a study released on Wednesday.

It just goes to show how much we have left to discover about our own planet. We often query what sort of species lie at the depths of the ocean but we don't even know all the species on land yet, fascinating article for anyone interested in this sort of thing.

They are getting killed by locals who believe they are venomous snakes and little did they know they where a rare undiscovered creature.

The eggs look super creepy!

The rest do just look like normal worms though.

A bit creepy yes, but very interesting. Looks like one would be able to observe the growing process within the egg from the outside, that is quite something! It also seems like that they have few predators since the egg shell is very thin.

The biggest predator is the locals who keep killing them!

We have similar amphibians in the US, amphiumas as well as legless lizards. They are mostly nocturnal and living under mud and other debris has managed to keep them being seen often..
