Has anybody ever thought of injecting americans or other foreign workers with a tracking device like what they do with dogs so they can be found if they go missing?Or secretly injecting a tracking device into a known al qaeda prisnor and setting him free to see if he can lead them to more al qaeda?

They can't really track dogs with those chips, they only work if the dog is found, they scan the dog and if it has the chip, it feeds the dog's info to the computer, and the owner can be located. Maybe some sort of GPS locator would work, but I don't think they are small enough yet to be implanted, maybe they could shrink them down, like a lo-jack for people.

But in Iraq, by the time we'd be able to locate them (foreign workers) they more than likely would be dead.

Just make sure you dont put the chip in their head.

Or thats all you might find.

Yeah, but the VeriChip from ADS doesn't work as a GPS on it's own. It still requires a device the size of a wrist watch, or pager on your belt. The chips are only functional within a 5 to 10m radius. Probably another 5 years away from being able to miniaturize a GPS to that level.

Some reading and , this and some more. I've been following the VeriChip for a long long time. I think it's a great idea, providing it doesn't become required by some federal regulation (in place of an ID card, or a drivers license etc.).

I believe this technology is already here, but I doubt that it will be available to the public anytime soon. A few years ago, a company called Digital Angel was talking about offering such a device so you could locate your kids and even family members with Alzheimer's, but due to such an overwhelming negative response, they discontinued the program and just market wearable GPS devices. They currently make implantable devices to track cattle. Their parent company, Applied Digital Solutions, makes the implants for military use.

If they started doing that & the terrorist became aware of it, they'd be doing surgery to remove them and killing folks even before they had planned. We've all seen the Sci-Fi movies ( Total Recall, Matrix, 12 Monkeys etc.) where the trackers have to be removed, if the bad guys were removing them I don't think it would be as nice.
