Just had flyover 2 F16 at high altitude (severe winds right now, clear skys, tornado warning last night 76F) they are looping the area. They followed two other jets(?) that are VERY low. Huge sound decibels, one felt like it flew directly over me but I saw no plane. Any HAAF know anything going on? They seem to be circling the area between HAAF and FSGA.

Clouds have come in and they're still flying over the tops of them. Theres a chinook I just heard as well but no visual, guess its just some folks gettin' out of here. The wind is crazy right now, clouds are haulin butt so they gotta be havin fun. Saw some good tails coming off of them as well.

Heh I think you got us confused there.

This is a military town but it is odd for jets to be out flying low over residential zoning on a Sunday afternoon. But since that's just what jets do it is probably a couple of officers who decided not to take the Harley's out this weekend and borrowed their "company car" for a cruise around town.

Are you new to that area? You know they work on f-16's over at gulfstream. I live there for years and have seen them at low altitude to many times to count. And they are usually doing erratic maneuvers, probably making sure whatever repairs were made worked. If you live on the west side (pooler, garden city, wentworth) you'll get a lot more and closer sightings.

mretgis,
Thank you for your share! I am one state away from you and we have been having an excessive amount of military chopper and plane fly overs recently, all over town. Not sure if they are routine, if so its a new routine. Or if something is going on. Yesterday there were 3 chopper in a row over my apartment with 3 prongs on the back, never seen any life it before. It was followed by 3 huge dark green/grey carrier planes. Thank you for keeping me posted that military is being boosted everywhere around here down south, continue to keep posting please! I thank you!

Thanks! I'll keep you posted with any weird stuff. The green/gray planes are probably C-130's if they have props on them. They are luxurious planes with excellent latrines that are used for troop and supply transport. The larger ones that have turbines are either a C-17 which look like a ride at space camp inside or a C-5 but I don't think they have too many C-5's. The helicopters were most likely UH-60's lovingly known as the Blackhawk which have awesome seatbelts that slick sleeves cannot escape. It could also have been a smaller Apache which is a pretty awesome helicopter that I've never gotten to mess around with sadly. If you ever see the big huge Chinook which has two sets of propellers on top and looks like a slow moving yacht in the sky, it is anything but that. Chinooks haul serious butt. Recently there should have been some good traffic coming in with the recent redeployment of a portion of the Army's 3rd Infantry Division about 4 mos back. Usually though you won't be able to tell what aircraft is used in a troop re/deployment as they use a civilian aircraft unless the flight will remain CONUS.

I've been here a while, I'm in between the two garrisons closer to the Stewart side. I used Sav as my location as its the "metro" for the coastal area and surrounding but I am more inland (Near Raytheon). I remember the first time I had a flight get delayed at Sav-HH so some jets could get maneuvered, freaked me out a little cause I figured they'd fly out of HAAF but the Army/AF outsources everything. Hope you're managing to stay warm this winter! I had to break out the snow chains today.

any of you guys know a type of jet that stays in one place? 70+ feet off the ground? that doesn't sound like a helicopter?

VTOL's should be able to manage that fairly easily. The most famous of the VTOL's is the Harrier Jump Jet which is in use by the Navy, this VTOL in particular is a traditional looking jet whereas others look like hybrid helicopters. The Harrier was also made (in?)famous in the Rockstar Games classic Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas where it was named the Hydro Jump Jet.
