***Blocked Calls/Names? Not Any More!***

At least 5 times a month I get a blocked number and name, its quite frustrating especially if I am on a call and my phone didn't show me who was on the other line and I click over.

This indeed is a pain in the rear, but what if you get no name and a number? Its tricky to have to deal with this anonymous stuff. This happened again, and I decided that I would try to do a reverse look-up. Boy was I surprised to find a site that people go to and share the annoying calls and describe what they hear or dont, and who they might be.

Apparently this is a huge problem. So if you got a call and were curious who it was you can add this number to the search, and find people all over the U.S that received the same calls, and a little info about what they heard, or who they might be.

Thought Id share it.

Yea I believe that there are several services like that around the net.....but your right, it sure is annoying to get those calls at all hours of the day.

Indeed i have been getting some calls on a recent cell phone i purchased from Africa...

so here is the last call ...

Me- Hello ..

Them- Hello, Sir, it is regarding an inheritance, its rather a large sum of money and the lawyers here have processed the paper work and it's ready to be deposited into your account via the African central bank.

Me- Really, oh cool, how much is it?

Them- Sir, i do not know the amount, but i have been instructed to call you and exchange bank details to complete the transaction

Me- Oh, but there is a small....very little problem....

Them- Whats the problem...how may i help.

Me- Well, Sir...I am sure i have murdered every living relative that was in africa so perhaps you have the wrong person

Them..Oh go and f*ck yourself ( and he hangs up)

I think you might be fibbing a bit, Cerebralassassins. I don't think you just killed every living relative of yours in Africa, I submit with certain suspicion that you also ate them (bringing some of the Old School to the New World, are we?). I also submit that you never lost the appetite for flesh and thus, continued to consume that which was easiest to obtain, that which is right in front of you, your arms. What happened to your arms, Cerebralassassins?

I played the phone game too, but that was shortly after getting a new phone or having recently downgrading to the track phone. I must get 20 random texts a month. Purposely, I have not set up a voice mail, for I am afraid I would be spending my minutes listening to irrelevant messages.

I used to google them, to some success, but now I will use the website above.

There are two sides to this coin. Some people are so afraid of phone calls, they won't even answer their phone unless they know who it is.

Imagine if a family member had an emergency, had to borrow a phone and nobody would answer because they did not recognize the number?

To the best of my knowledge answering a phone cannot kill you and it just might be somebody you know.

This comes up every election cycle by the way. I heard the reports on the news that this topic is alive again. Whenever new State AG's are running, they use this issues to incite people to vote for them, knowing full well the laws needed are already in place. Nearly every call I get now is regarding a politician running for office. They call me constantly with Robo-Calls. They are not going to outlaw a tool they use themselves.

What I do is the best answer. I hang up. My phones have never harmed me. Hanging up works too. Nobody trying to make money will waste their time calling people who don't wish to be called. I maybe get one call like that a month and yet I hear people claiming they get constant calls. Perhaps they don't pay their bills?

Would you like to now what i used to when i was in my 20's, well i would get two A4 size sheets, (21x29.7cm) and i wold tape the SE to SE (Short Edge to Short Edge) effectively creating a length of paper (21x59.4cm), i would go to a public accessible fax machine, back then they had them without supervision and i would randomly dial any fax number and feed the paper, as its being fed i would wait for the leading edge of the paper to roll out, quickly taping the end of the pre-fed paper and in doing so creating a roll of paper. Well you can understand what happens at the other end. The paper simply goes round and round on my end and the other end it wastes what ever there is to waste. Then come the phreaking era..but that has almost gone, now we have cell phones, slightly more tricky but also fun to play with. Indeed they are smart phones, but for dumb users.

Truly genius.

I have just downloaded the app and am going to try it (I'm the adventurous, willing-to-experiment type). I'll report back to this thread in a few days and let you know how it works.

It sounds like somebody is soo tied to their phone, their electronic umbilical cord, that they live by it, stress over it and would and die without it..... --You wouldn't you know, well, maybe a teenage girl would.

The first part of the complaint mentioned "having" to click over to a no-name call when you were already on another call. Tip #1: Don't take the damned call! Let it go to voice mail. They'll leave a message if the call is worthwhile. Tip #2; Do you have close friends with blocked names? No? Then let the call go; it won't be a friend that you are slighting. Tip #3: You HAVE friends that use blocking? Then that is their problem, not yours if they don't get through. Tip #4: Who needs friends with blocked numbers? Tip #5: Get a second phone. I understand that is all the rage some places. You can talk to two people at once.

We don't have caller i.d. just an answering machine (primitive I know) however, we get these annoying hang up calls, I theorize telemarketers, even though we're on the Fed do not call list, alot of them ignore it. About your blocked calls, they are probably telemarketers, I did a brief stint as one and the supervisor told us (we had no computerized system to dial*67 before the call. Just thought I'd let you in on a few tricks, he even had a code to get past the privacy manager system. This is why I said it was a very brief stint there, I don't like deceptive practices.

Here is a quip for some of you, some may know already - The National Do Not Call List (if that is its official name, I don't recall at the moment) only applies to corporations and not the non-profits and charity groups. I know, because I was getting pissed that I kept getting calls. So, I researched it and wallah, I found out.
