People believing in the end times are going to love this story. The Beirut River turned red from an unknown contaminate. They are guessing that it could be from dye, a chemical, or possibly blood. I know that rivers turning to blood is one of the prophesies foretelling the end of days...could this be a sign?

www.naharnet.com...

The environment ministry was on Thursday investigating the mysterious red color that tainted the Beirut River a day earlier, urging the Hazmiyeh and Baabda municipalities to cooperate with it.

Beirut police went in vain up and down the stream on Wednesday to locate the source of the red liquid.

As Safir daily said that the ministry’s team of experts headed by Bassam Sabbagh made an initial finding that the pollutant has no odor and that the red color could come from blood, a chemical, or a dye.

“The source of the pollution hasn’t been identified yet because it comes from a closed sewage,” Environment Minister Nazem al-Khoury said. “But it could probably be from the Hazmiyeh or Baabda municipalities.”

He urged the municipalities to cooperate as soon as possible to determine the source and type of pollution.

“There is a possibility that a factory threw pollutants or a slaughterhouse” threw the remains of animals, al-Khoury said.

An unlicensed farm could also be behind the pollution, he added

I not a biblical expert, so maybe another member can tell us about the meaning of rivers turning red with blood. I know it's something to do with one of the seals, but I'll leave the interpretations to those who know more than me. Of course, this is probably just contamination from something that they will eventually identify, but it is rather curious.

What does everyone think?....just a polluted stream....or something more?

The next trumpet of the apocalypse will be the "falling star" into "water" or "fountains of water".....

We'll see.

The color is very intense... red algae? Red clay mud? Raging menstrual effluvium?.... who's to say?

What are the locals saying?

It may be from soil erosion, but it's sill being investigated.

www.nowlebanon.com...

Dr. Isam Bashour, professor of Agricultural Sciences at the American University of Beirut, told NOW Lebanon that although he has not seen the the river, it could well be a consequence of recent storms and soil erosion. When asked why this did not occur weeks ago when storms were at their heaviest, Bashour said that previously, the soil was able to absorb the majority of water gathered through rain whereas now it is less able to do so. Furthermore, he noted, it takes time for the river to run from its source to Beirut

According to the March 14 official website, security forces are investigating

Very interesting indeed ... it will be worth following this story to see how it pans out ... my guess is red algae.

Do we know if this happened overnight or gradually over a longer period ?

I was working for a construction company once that accidentally turned an entire river system white. It rained really hard and the running track we were making got washed away, all of the urethane we were spraying washed into a crick, then a stream, then a river, right into the Atlantic. One eyedropper of the stuff would turn over a gallon of water white. It was terrible. The EPA descended on us like a bomb squad and within minutes there were police from 5 different counties there. The company was fined 50k a day until we got it all cleaned up.

It is probably some dye or something like that.
Freaky though. Could be from a slaughter house too as they mentioned. I am sure some testing will show what it is and where it is coming from.

Tests for blood came back negative, government sources say additional tests are being done with results expected within a week. I believe the picture from China that is posted in this thread looks pretty similar so my guess is it's a chemical dump of some kind. The Beirut river flows into the Mediterranean so whatever it is, it's being shared.

So you conducted tests on the Beirut River? When did you get the tests back?

Curious as to why the world hasn't been told this since apparently YOU have the definitive answer.
