I am hoping you ATS'ers can help me with this.
This morning, I turned on the t.v., like every morning. We leave it on for the dogs during the day.
Anyway, CBS this morning, came on, and they go thru headlines that will be talked about later in the show.
I hear this either (Billionaire, or Man) spends 20 Million in 4 days at, (maybe) gift expo, is sent for psych evaluation.

Of course, I want to know why. If he is a billionaire, who cares how much he spends, or how fast.

The problem is, I just spent an hour searching their web site for the story and could not find it. I even did a bit of a search, not hard core, on the internet.

So, why would they say it on the show this morning, then not have it online?
Very frustrating.
If someone can find this, Thank you!!!!!

Sorry if this is in the wrong forum.

I didn't find it on their website either, but I think this could be the story you are looking for.

This has happened many times while i watch HLN with Robin Meade. I have it on in the background in the morning and sometimes things catch my attention yet there is nothing on their site. I usually have to google and find it elsewhere.

yea wow 20million is a lot of money but if he is a billionaire then yea why the mental ward?

And just read the link below you

A manic Manhattan multimillionaire went on a wild shopping spree at a Javits Center trade show, buying up $20 million in upscale tchotchkes before landing in a mental hospital.
Cigar-chomping Ed Bazinet, 68, spent four days going from booth to booth at the New York International Gift Fair, stunning vendors as he snatched up everything in sight — from ice- cream scoops to scented sachets to Scandinavian barbecue tools, witnesses told The Post.
The outrageous outlay raised alarms, and Bazinet was hospitalized, friends said yesterday.
Just before the Javits event, Bazinet tore through a Paris trade show and ordered $39.4 million worth of products, sources said.

Thank you so much!

Now, after reading that though, If he made all his money selling snow babies and ceramic villages, how do they know he was not buying all that stuff to sell?

Hopefully there is a follow up on this. I still question why he can't spend his own money.

Apparently he has some mental health issues.

But when the vendor called last Bazinet week to confirm the order and get payment information, an assistant told her that the order was cancelled. "We called to get his credit card information," the vendor said, "and his assistant told us that he had ordered $20 million worth of merchandise. She said he was having a bipolar incident, and had been hospitalized. They're cancelling all the orders. Hopefully all the other vendors called ahead to check like we did."

Katherine Roepke, a spokesman for Bazinet, confirmed the incident. "I don't know that it was $20 million, but much of that is true," she said. "He is hospitalized right now with a manic episode. He has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder. We all hope the best for him." Source

Poor guy. Make a ton of money only to go crazy and lose control of it. Could be a conspiracy angle here?? Or it could just be he's like many people with the same problem. Hope he gets the help he needs.

One symptom of bi-polar is excessive spending and then immediate remorse where you take the items back or refuse payment like this man did.

Hope he gets the help he needs.

This again just shows money doesn't make you happy!

Well, now I am just more curious. He had an assistant with him while he was buying all this stuff. Didn't she question him then? Seems like he would have had to buy a ton of snow babies and villages to get rich in the first place.

Well, I feel bad if the Bi-Polar part is true.

Funny that. I just made a comment last night, after seeing something else on t.v. that it seems the more money you have, the crazier you seem to be.

LOL Although I don't really have any, but.......

That's weird, I thought mindless consumerism was a good thing for America?

Red flags went up immediately with me. What if he's some guy that's, "in the know", and he knows the end(for some) is coming soon, and he realizes that the money will soon be worthless. It scares me a bit thinking about it, but your'all probably right and he's just crazy. We have to watch for signs like this because one day they will arrive.
