Right about what? You are so eager to let them off the hook. You eat their bs up and say thankyou.

Its sickening.

Apple cares about profit. They know that public opinion is turning against them. This is just some half assed bs to make you nod your head.

I think this effort by Mike Daisey and team had a great deal to do with the recent attention focused on this and Apple's admission...kudos to them.

Apple is one of many companies that use Foxconn for their parts. And as far as I am aware, they are the only company bothering to look into any of this.

Apple had a chance to do something in 2009/10 when people were killing themselves. All Apple did was force FoxConn to start building factories in Brazil and what used to be Russia.

This is just the new CEO building a new brand, "the softer gentler apple. we give to charity now and love our slaves long time".

Guess in 2-3 years we can judge every other company that responded as slowly.

I posted a thread about this very problem that got virtually ignored. But, now, it's only true because Apple themselves admitted it:

Lol you know the sort though man, they are infact out there and lots of them. To an extent its not so much Apple thats the problem, its the morons who fall for there company marketing and product line that are the problem.

Realisticaly though if ipods and all the other guff where to made in the U.S or Europe those shiny little electronic trinkets would cost about ten times the current retail price. And im not entirely sure its the inherent badness within a company like Apple to use China, but there ultimatly bound by the system, just like everyone else.

To what extent they are complicit in the system, thats the thing though isnt it.
edit on 14-2-2012 by Ixtab because: (no reason given)

Dude they have more money than the US Treasury. They are rich enough to produce all their products and pieces in the States, to stimulate the local economy. Corporations like Apple exporting their factories in China and other poor countries is one of the reason why your country is such in a bad shape. The US exports virtually nothing, yet it imports every good it can. That's anti-economic, and corps are responsible for this (you know, in the name of profit).

Their OVERPRICED products can easily be made in the US and sold at the same price, they wouldn't be making losses, they'd still be making huge profits, but greedy Steve Jobs didn't think of it that way. So while every dumb sheep continues to be blinded by Apple's dance, thousands of poor workers are being abused and not being heard of. On top of it all, Apple puts out all that cute publicity about being a green company (which is not true), a company that respects human rights (not true), and that their awesome products are necessary (not true).

It really disgusts me that Apple has managed to brainwash people and make them unquestioning fans/zombies. People planting tents in front of the store the day before the new phone is marketed, are you fricking kidding me? What is that? Your phone can't make calls? Can't text? Or do you really need that stupid Siri thing with the new shiny useless app-for-everything-required-in-life?

Sorry, didn't want to make that long of a post, and it is not directed at you. You just opened the way for a rant, because Steve Jobs and Apple make me angry and desperate at the same time. Where is our world headed? I value my shiny little adult toy more than humans life actually! After all, it seems to be the new cool trend eh?

Peace and love!

Yeah of course Apple are by far the largest company that uses Foxconn. They are a huge conglomerate and hell I'm going to talk about the elephant in the room...

For sure lets blame Apple, but lets blame people for buying their products in the first place. The large number of people that fall for the I Life crap and want every single one of their electronic products to be made by Apple. You know in this situation we can't even say, 'well what can you do, people demand low prices so companies have no choice to go to China and employ cheap workers...'
.No, Apple have overpriced products but people will buy them anyway, the advertising is that good it has people under their spell. Thats not to say that some Apple products are good, clearly they are excellent, but this is not the primary reason why most buy. Its to do with being seen as hip, being stylish and hell it doesn't matter how much the products costs, because I'm going to be seen using it in public dammit!

And I suspect that less people will post in this thread than are intrerested in the topic. Why? Because I bet that at least half of the posters own Apple products. They know they use immoral work practices, but they think its better not to be hypocrites. I don't agree. If I owned an Apple product (which I don't) I would still come here and say what they do is wrong.

To recap - overpriced, immoral and common. I can forgive somebody who buys a cheaper phone that also uses a sweatshop because they can't afford an expensive one. But generally speaking the Apple crowd have money to burn, if they are willing to pay out, its about time they demanded that Apple products be manufactured in the US or at least in factories with decent conditions.

I have an older generation iPod that I bought before I learned everything about them, and I have an android phone because it is very useful to both my job and my school. The horror, it is also made by poorly paid workers. The sad thing is that you can't find phones made in the US (or Canada in my case). There is an almost transparent monopoly in the phone market, in which every damn company uses that disgusting technique in the name of profit and "economic stimulation" (laughable). I have nothing against people buying their overpriced products, but I have something against ignorant people that are not actively demanding a reform in these companies ethics.

My friend would be the greatest example. Every single electronic toy he owns is made by Apple, and he's what you'd call an Apple zombie. Countless times have I presented him facts about how Apple isn't the green, peaceful and caring company he thinks. I hate it when people bury their heads into the sand. Since we are on a conspiracy forum, you know what that makes me think of? Mind control through publicity.

There's something really wrong going on with society and I fear not for my children's future, but for my own as well. I do not believe we can keep up like this because one way or another the planet's gonna grow tired of us and wipe us all. That is...if we don't wipe ourselves up first.

i would say so. using communist slave labor to make iphones 15 miles out of beijing, and then causing riots by not having enough of the product to overcharge the same people who manufactured it is criminal.

I'm not eager to get them off of anything. I, as much as anyone was sickened and disappointed with MYSELF more than anyone for being a big electronics consumer (not even Apple products!).

Eating their BS up and saying thank you would mean I would have to give a crap about who was involved. And I'm not. My indifference knows no bounds regarding WHO is to blame for what. As I said in my first post, Apple are not the only company involved in using Foxconn to make their parts. To me, it doesn't matter which company has the most manufacturing done for them, they're all equally to blame.

Also, I don't deny that yes, the reason they are even bothering to look into it is because the evil eye has turned on them. I'm not so naive as to think that all companies in the world want peace and love. Money makes the world go round. I don't deny it.
All I'm saying is, at least they're bothering to look into it. I don't care as to their reasons why. I don't give two flying craps about Apple and their products or Steve Jobs. Of all the other companies who use Foxconn, who else is looking into the conditions their workers have to deal with?

While you're all squawking over Apple and Steve Jobs being evil, perhaps you should look at yourselves, your iPhones, your Macbooks, your iPods, and think, "I helped contribute to the end of these lives." For your ONE Apple product, you could have paid more than 8 peoples monthly wage. And even if you're not holding the latest Apple product, no doubt some components of whatever technology you use were made there too.
So don't be so quick to think you know me, and judge me.

Thats a crazy thing to say.

Stop defending Apple for god sake.

Well...
The first thing I thought was what is Sony and AMD doing about it?
I do not buy Apple products anyway.

I have done product sourcing and QC in China for the last 7 years. Our factories do this type of thing every time I visit and we aren't even inspecting anything important or in the news for working conditions.

The average Chinese worker works in conditions and lives a life that most Westerners will never understand. Life is quite different when you have a population of people as large as that. People really start to lose any concern for others. It is sometimes required to lose your compassion in order to ensure you have food in your belly.

I know this isn't isolated to Chinese either, it happens all over the world constantly, and worse. Life truly does suck for most people.

This may sound of off topic but... this kind of testimony make me think this is another good reason to population control in this planet... The MORE people are in this planet the LESS value it will have for the TPTB and to other fellow planet mate too.
