I would like to share with you my love of crows

First off not sure if this is not in the Right forum, and you feel inclined to move it, please do mods!

I consider myself an Animal lover(I rescued/owned multiply dogs and cats) but don't think much is going on in their heads. There is one creature though that has impressed me, beyond "oh thats neat" when it comes to intelligence and thinking, and that is the Crow/Raven(same families).

These often considered ugly birds and sometimes nuance in cities are extremely intelligent. For a quick look into interesting facts, I present this humors article for a light read.

Crows have shown a stunning ability to learn, build/use multiply tools, and plan ahead.





Well some scientist are still trying to learn whatever dolphins are talking about. I say the that effort is wasted and we should be learning how to decipherer the Crows languages.

A number of calls made by crows have been described in the scientific literature over the past century. Our review has indicated that it appears nearly impossible for someone not already familiar with various types of crow vocalizations to distinguish them by means of the descriptions given in print literature. In the near future, each call will be linked to an audio recording and a sonogram to provide a precise record of each sound described.

Now this video isn't differentiate proof of communication in action, but around :34 seconds the first crow caws and the second, Crow B then immediately solves the puzzle .

Crows also have a fondness for toys and entertainment.

they not like the other animals....... lol . You know why i don't like crows ? Its because if they were every to get together and attack us humans , they would do alot of damage , with that big long strong beak! They smart also , so they will do some crazy fly by's ! lol . They projectiles in ninja outfits!

You ever try and scare a crow away ? I have . Those things do what they want , when they want. They will tell you when they are ready to move lol

Thats why I say we crack their language and become friends. Also don't ever attack a crow, because they hold grudges for generations.

nice! a friend of mine rescued a crow a few years back. one time i bought a green little rubber ball, played fetch with it once for over an hour, didn't get tired of it. =D

only problem was, you really had to remember to close the bathroom door when you had to pee...
happened to me twice, quite the painful experience.

I love crows too. At the moment, I have seven crows that act like protectors for my home.They will warn me if a predator is around, and they know which room of my home I may be working in and call to me through the window. I absolutely love them. They always provide me with entertainment. They like to play with the red tail hawks.

Last year, I witness a squirrel get hit by a car, a hawk tried to claim the prize but the crows ran it off, Minutes later, I had 3 hawks trying to intimidate the crows but the crows won. I watched with amazement as the crows observe a car coming down the road and each crow would hurry up and try to place the squirrel where the car would run over it to help separate the meat for a quick and easy meal. This took 3 tries with different cars, but they finally figured out where in the road to lay their catch.

They finally were able to pick up their flattened catch and move it to a ditch, and then the hawks were back and the fight was on again.This went on for an hour, finally, they all left and this poor flattened squirrel was ate 2 days later by the crows.

I believe crows actualy have a sense of family, that or magpies I'm not sure

Crows are great birds. During my time in the Basque region of Spain I hardly went a day without hanging around one of their cousins the Magpie. These guys would follow hikers, learned our eating schedules, etc. Very smart and with 3 in particular who "hiked" with us for a good 40 miles or so began to show very distinct personalities. I was also told they are a sign of good luck in 2's and bad luck if there is just one so if you were to see one alone you should always say "hello Mr. Magpie , send my regards to Mrs. Magpie" in spanish of course Somehow this was supposed to take away the bad luck. I believe they are highly regarded among many native american tribes as well.

Crows are amazing I love birds and have fed them for years. I had a very special crow that had to be the matriarch or a very old male VERY VERY LARGE I named this crow White Wing because every other feather in one of her wings was white only in one wing though the other wing was normal.

This bird was amazing and I felt deep love for her ( and her large family) we fed them all our leftovers in a spot in our back yard and she would sit on my top deck and caw for me to feed her scraps and bread almost every day for years.She brought me such pleasure watching her eat through my sliders from the dining room.

She would leave me pine cones and sticks on our table constantly sometimes she would leave a large fluffly plume from the tall grass that grew by the lake.
Even if I didn't see her when I went to get these little presents she left I would make a big deal about it thanking her for it.
One day coming home form work I bought a couple corn muffins I didn't finsh one so I left it on the table for her
I sat and sipped my tea and there she was ..she hopped on the table ate some of her muffin I talked with her a bit
then she flew off with the rest of the muffin.
I didn't see her for about 2 days and actually I remember saying to my husband we didn't really see any birds in that 2 days very strange.
I came home from work with my husband on the 3rd day that I didn't see her and went to the deck to scatter the night befores bread for her and right in the middle of the table was a old beaten up key chain with a pretty scratched silver beaded tag on it we were so amazed I really loved this bird she had such a personality.
We never saw her again after that day I WAS SO HEART BROKEN.......(eyes tearing up now) I continued to feed all her family. That was back in 92 through 95 or so at least I had a few years with her.

Thats an awesome story, I too hope to someday befriend one of this wonderful birds. As some crow takers have said when researching them. "You don't own a crow, they own you."

Though I think thats to simplified its not a matter of ownership, its a matter of friendship
