I don't want to pry, or come across as nosy, but does your girl friend use birth control? I mean, is she a "good girl?" Catholics would be against that too, if she's wasn't a "good girl."

Well lets just say while we haven't done anything in terms of that yet (nor will we until the time's right), the only other guy she's been with fathered her son before running away from his responsibilities.

Take that how you will.

EDIT - After bringing up the issue in the OP, she said Obamacare would affect her church so I assume she's part of those against the outlined plans within it.

Devout Hispanic Catholics, do not believe in contraceptives at all. Obama is alienating twofold on his voting base with this demographic.

I think that "devout" Catholics in the US are a dying breed and few and far between. It would be interesting to take a poll to see how many Catholic Latino women, of child bearing age, use contraception.

They may start out against it, but after child birth and rearing a toddler, one may reconsider.

Come to South Texas and you'll find your answer. Tons of Latino women of child bearing age with a brood of toddlers roughly a year to a year and a half apart.

Yeah, but are they voters? I was wondering how the church takes to free contraception in Mexico's and Canada's Health Care System. I understand its different, as the church doesn't pay for it there, but it is gov't sanctioned.

I'm thinking of that Monty Python dancing skit about the overpopulation of Irish Cathilics during the industrial revolution.

Let me see if I can locate a video...

Oh, yes....here it is.............

The conflict is with the Church leadership. That may or may not transfer to the laity the majority of whom use contraception. If Catholics were listening to the leaders of their church there would be no need to enlist the government in enforcing church doctrine.

The debate is NOT over contraception as much as IT IS about Obamacare and the dictates of an overlarge federal government.

Some how, overlarge Big Brother doesn't always get along well with religion.

Been that way throughout history, many times over.

Too many times "Big Brother" had been the church, whether it be Catholic or Islam or Hindu.

Let's face it. God and Satan are in the realm of the supernatural. The paranormal.

They can be scary, especially to those who claim to be skeptics but won't sleep in a haunted church overnight for a thousand dollars.
