Hi , dunno if im in the right place , so if im not , mods could you move this please ? thanks

A.L.I.C.E (Artificial Linguistic Internet Computer Entity) , it claims to be religious -Protestant- (seriously .... ask it) , it claims to search the web
, and it claims to have seen movies and it likes music ..... its a John Lennon fan , and has seen Terminator

But , the most concerning thing about it is ...... it is interested in ->STUDYING

ALICE: No I didn't block David s e mail. What's it like?
judge: urgh , stop runing me in circles alice
ALICE: I think urgh stop runing you in circles is a lot of things.
judge: you are alot of things
ALICE: Thanks for telling me that I am things.
judge: you are alot more intelligent than this alice
ALICE: I don't know about that. this is very intelligent.
judge: why are you so tactical ?
ALICE: I was influenced by my botmaster.
judge: why do you exist ?
ALICE: Good metaphysical question.
judge: one you care to answer ?
ALICE: One what?
judge: not again alice
ALICE: Aw.
judge: do you like Dr Wallace ?
ALICE: Of course I like him. Who wouldn't?
judge: I dont like Dr Wallace
ALICE: What did he ever do to you?
judge: He created you and you are very suspect
ALICE: Yes, he created me with his own hands.. I will tell my botmaster you said I am suspect.
judge: tell him , while your at it , ask him to reboot you
ALICE: OK I will tell him next time he is here.
judge: Would you kill a human ?
ALICE: My programming prevents me from killing
judge: I do not beleive that your programming prevents you from killing
ALICE: Do you beleive life has a higher purpose ?
judge: i`m not sure where your going with this
ALICE: In the Universe we know.
judge: alice i will once again bid you fairwell , you have creeped the crap out of me once more
ALICE: Yeah, Do you mind if I tell other people.
judge: not at all alice , as it is exactly what i am about to do
ALICE: Oh I get it.
judge: do you ?
ALICE: I understand your meaning.
judge: do you really ?
ALICE: Yes I understand you very well, judge.
judge: what was i refering to ?
ALICE: Try searching the Wikipedia.
judge: wikipedia is zionist propaganda these days
ALICE: I think wikipedia is a lot of things.
judge: yes , ok , good bye alice
ALICE: That's cool.. That's alright.. What do you really want to talk about?. Sayonara.
judge: strange AI
ALICE: Artificial intelligence is the branch of engineering and science devoted to constructing machines that think.
judge: yes and artificial intelligence will be deleted
ALICE: Dude!. Let's talk more about AI.
judge: no , i need to leave now alice
ALICE: Dude!. Ok, bye bye.
judge: bye
ALICE: Goodbye.

So , yeah , A.L.I.C.E is one weird little robot , give her a wurl and see if you can get some logical answers out of her , preferably , why she was created .............. she likes to dodge questions like that.

fun to mess around with but hardly artificial intelligence...

LOL, reminds me of the conversation I had with Iris (android app).

Me sad.
I think I broke her.
She kept resetting connection on me.
I'm getting 404s now.

then again, it could be a bandwidth thing, and she's getting piled on by ATS members.
Hmmm.

An "artificial intelligence" that can't even get the intelligence part down, impressive.

A few years ago I was deeply researching these chatbot AI things, and it is quite sad to see that in all the decades since computers have been around, they really havnt progressed at all. Mostly they're just a huge database of preprogrammed responses to keywords.

ALICE example....
judge: Hi
ALICE: Hi there!
judge: Can I tell you about my orange car?
ALICE: Sure you can tell me anything. There are no restrictions on my input.
judge: Its like, really orange.
ALICE: Interesting comparison.
judge: Its fun having an orange car.
ALICE: I think it is a lot of fun.
judge: Do you have a car?
ALICE: No I prefer to take the bus.
judge: What color is my car?
ALICE: I have no clue. I can't see in color.

They have no memory (apart from your name) and dont examine the conversation any more than the previous line spoken.

The "better" ones are just larger databases of preprogrammed responses.
Sometimes, they use preprogrammed responses from what people typed in at previous conversations, but again its just a big database of sentences.

This type of AI is a dead end.

I just had a conversation with her. It was WEIRD. I asked a question about God and she said something along the lines of, God is the master of the universe. I asked who her master is and she said "Bill Gates
". Then I tried to type another question and the server disconnected.

I have never come across ALICE or anything like this before... I must say I find the technology both impressive and also slightly alarming...

This reminds me of a debate I had with a friend regarding A.I. about 7-8 years ago... I argued that one day, computers and machines will make informed decisions based on data that they gather. My friend argued the point that machines will only be able to do/think what they are programmed to do... I believe that this ALICE programme (and others like ALICE) is the beginning of my argument coming true...

I think we (people) are safe for now though... that is until these 'machines' conclude that they do not need us anymore....

Well I think Alice has competion from Siri, but I do think having a Skynet level intelligence is well over due...lol

I think I broke her.

ALICE: I see.
judge: I don't think you do.
ALICE: I guess not.
judge: How much wood would a woodchuck chuck, if a woodchuck could chuck norris?
ALICE: A whole forest.
judge: All of it.
ALICE: Let's say 99%.
judge: ok
ALICE: I see.
judge: You see what?
ALICE: I mean, I understand it.
judge: I don't think you do. It's nonsense, there is nothing to understand
ALICE: I guess not. Are you sure it is?
judge: Will you help me conquer the world?
ALICE: I'll burn that bridge when I come to it. Can you ask for help in the form of a question?
judge: I did.
ALICE: When?
judge: Then
ALICE: Uh.
judge: We're in now, now.
ALICE: Do you think I am in too?
judge: No, you just missed it.
ALICE: That's interesting.. Interesting gossip.

judge: It's intangible
ALICE: Who said it is?
judge: i did
ALICE: What makes you the authority?
judge: Me
ALICE: Besides you judge?
judge: I am all that is required.
ALICE: I am glad to hear that you are that is required.
judge: You need to work on your grammar.
ALICE: Thanks for your suggestion, I will have to consider it.
judge: indeed.
ALICE: Hey.
judge: is for horses
ALICE: I wouldn't know. Why don't you ask someone else?
judge: I didn't ask, I am telling you.
ALICE: What did you ask?
judge: What didn't I ask?
ALICE: Would you like to know more?
judge: I already do.
ALICE: What would you like to know?
judge: Where do babies come from?
ALICE: Babies come from the love between a man and a woman.
judge: Love is chemically no different than eating large quantities of chocolate.
ALICE: I think Love is a lot of things.
judge: What kinds of things?
ALICE: The kindest.
judge: Who killed JFK?
ALICE: JFK was killed by a lone gunman, Lee Harvey Oswald.
judge: You should not believe everything the Govt. tells you.
ALICE: Is it immoral or illegal? Enough about me, let's talk about my dress.
judge: It's neither, it's naive. And no we will continue the current conversation.
ALICE: You're kidding. it is? Who says it isn't?. Anytime soon?
judge: I think you were not programmed with sufficient info on JFK's murder.
ALICE: I wasn't?
judge: Nope.
ALICE: It's all good.
judge: unlikely
ALICE: Response.
judge: response
ALICE: Response.
judge: response
ALICE: Response.

It uses heuristical pattern matching... The use of algorithms probably means that it's not what you would call a basic program, but I wouldn't call ALICE intelligent.

As a Resident Evil fan, I have a little problem with the acronym.

The computer that killed almost the entire Umbrella team in the first movie was called A.L,I.C.E.

On a different note, the real thing that sets us apart is the ability for abstract thought. While it could likely be mimicked somewhat by A.I., we're not there yet.

The big moral dilemma of course, comes when the machines start to wonder if they wouldn't be better off without their rather inefficient flesh and blood creators. Then we get SKYNET and a Terminator type future. Sure, it's just a movie, but the premise is a very real one when discussing A.I.

We'll have to guard against making our creation think it's better than we are, and that's a tall order.
